LS/VTEC PROBLEM HELP
OVER HEATING PROBLEM
i got a hold of a gsr head for my ls bottom side. the b16 i had in there never over heated. i got the ls vtec in fine and started right up on the firts key turn. on the ls vtec im still using the ls water pump and timing belt as well as the ls thermostat. i removed the thermostat thinking it wasnt opening up all the way. ended up bench testing it, turned out it wasnt the problem the stat was opening like it was brand new. RE checked all my hoses nothing is leaking i also have a skunk two intake manifold on the head and i also by-passed the AIC and rerouted the line back into the head. also i have re-checked my timing probably about 7 times thinking the belt ended up jumping a tooth or two.
i have heard that i have to use a gsr timing and water pump is this true, and why. i thought the timing belt and water pump did the same thing through out the b-series line.
thanks again for the help ahead of time.

you dont have to. but it is highly recommended. vtec pumps spin slower at high rpm's.

Re: LS/VTEC PROBLEM HELP (doood)
when it over heats i mean it over heats, the gauge is all the way on the H. dont i want the coolant to flow faster through the radiator to cool down faster.

Did you make sure that the motor was full and the radiator? That happen to me on my first swap. Just kept filling it while it was running till it over flowed.

Re: (B-Hatchie)
yea try bleeding the system let the motor run, jack up the front of the car and sqeeze the hoses..
also the Ls water pump has 19 teeth and the vtec has 21 so it spins slower to prevent cavitating of the coolant, which could also cause over heating.

sounds like there is air in the cooling system....start the car with the radiator cap open and let it run. keep topping off the radiator until all the bubbles stop, cap it and you're done.

Re: (SYTFU Tommy.)
okay did that, over heating is under control, but when i took it out for a drive i went for about 25 minutes and then came back home i looked at the radiator hoses and then were about the size of pop cans, i mean they were huge. i let the car sit for a while because its unsafe to open the radiator cap, any way i opened it about an hour later, and it was almost like i was opening up a can of mountain dew, and it seemed like i had lost about half of my coolant in the radiator when i started to fill it back up.
should i just pull my cylinder head of and put a gsr head gasket in and see what happens, or is this typical of an ls/vtec to eat up coolant.
i did end up switching my water pump to the gsr water pump, when i looked at it. it had 22 teeth. and also swapped out the timing belt.
thank you for the help

Re: (HondaRexBoi)
sounds like bad head gasket, pull dip stick and check oil level... if its super high drain the oil check for water.
and no they are not supposed to consume coolant.
22/21 sorry, def good you swapped this out with vtec model.
did you have head decked/machined?

Re: (JDMB20TDA)
the head only got machined for the dowl pins to fit in. i still dont understand what was the point to change the water pump. i thought all water pumps did the same thing. move coolant from the engine to the radiator and how would i end up making my oil pressure higher by adding a washer to it. i dont under stand.

ever seen a race boat with a overheated prop? its all blued and purple?
Thats because it cavatated the water around it spinning so too, Like dropping ur clutch @ 7 grand instead of launchin. waters not going anywhere.
