Re: loud ticking noise comeing from head
Id look around inside the head. Its probably still in there. And there is no Nut above the valve spring..... If its knocking.... is what u mean by ticking than ur motor is most likely blown.

wow.. you got VERY lucky... but what do you mean you took it out of the drain plug? that doesnt make sense.. there is no way to get a nut from the head to the block where the drain plug is..
If you dont mind, please explain a lil better, cause i dont see how ANYTHING from the head could have ended up in the crankcase...

like i said.. there is NO WAY for ANYTHING, except metal shavings, to get from the head to the oil pan drain plug..
What nut did you find, where did you put it back to, and where did you find it? im just thinking about what else might be loose..

no.. what i am saying, is i dont see how a bolt came loose in the head where you heard the noise, and then ended up in the bottom end of the motor.. did something come loose in the bottom end?

Can u record a video or sound clip of what the noise sounds like? I have a ticking noise as well on my motor and it remained after a valve adjustment.

Re: loud ticking noise comeing from head
he showed me.. its the lockdown nut for the valve lash adjuster.. he said he found it in his oil pan, which is IMPOSSIBLE.. there is NO WAY that nut could have travelled from the head to the oil pan.. im thinking that the person that built the motor may have used the oil pan as a parts tray, and left that in there upon reassembly..

again.. lol.. there is no way in the world it could have gone from there to there.. there are no passages big enough for that to pass through.. at all.. like, the crankcase is completely separated from the head, except for some VERY small oil passages.. much much smaller than that nut..
it for sure got left in there.. it didnt travel there.. but yeah.. you are hella lucky it didnt get caught up in the rotating assembly

Re: loud ticking noise comeing from head
well, im not saying that the valve adjuster wasnt loose... that nut doesnt adjust the lash, it holds down the adjuster itself..
you know when you screwed it back on? the stud that you put it on to? that had a slot for a flathead screwdriver in the top.. THAT thing spins, as well.. im thinking that the nut was never on there, and the that adjust finally just rattled loose..
yes.. the nut you pulled out of the oil pan IS the nut for the valve adjuster.. but again.. there is no way it could have traveled.. thats like saying it someone can walk through a wall.. lol...
By the way, i would take your valve cover back off, and check your valve lash on all valves, and make sure they are all tight.. i mean, whoever built the motor left a nut in the oil pan, didnt even bother to put a nut on the valve lash adjuster, and who knows what else.. i would start checking stuff, just to be on the safe side.. call me paranoid..

ya thats true but how much play should they have because some were looser than othere's are, i mean all the nuts were tight but the thing they sit on were loos on some of them and wat i mean by that is u could move them up and down?

Re: loud ticking noise comeing from head
well, you need to adjust your valve lash with feeler gauges.. you have to kinda rotate the motor to take load off the valve tappers, then adjust the lash WHILE THE ENGINE IS DEAD ICE COLD..
Bust out the service manual to do this.. its not hard...
