knock sensor help!!
so heres the deal... i have a ls/vtec swap in a 96 teg its a b16 head on a b18 bottom end. i have the stock ls wiring harness being used and vtec is wired into it. also im running an obd1 gsr ecu... heres the problem though..... my CEL is on and its code 23 (knock sensor) the car still hits vtec just not as hard as it should. now i herd of someway to bypass the knock sensor and loop the wiring so the ecu wouldnt throw a cel. does anyone know how to do this??? if so it would be a great help!! thanks

Re: knock sensor help!!
your check engine light is on because you dont have a knock sensor and you have a gsr ecu. Sence its an lsvtec its using an ls bottem which does not have a knock sensor. Your light is on because your ecu requies the knock sensor to adjust the timing for optimal performance. Using aftermarker tuning software people do sometimes disable the knock sensor. For stock applications i would put one in.
Sence the ls block does not have a spot to put, lots of people will just mod the alternator bracket and monting bolt hole to the right of the motor (closer to center of engine) take the bolt out and tap it to the same thread as the knock sensor and then screw the knock sensor in to hold the bracket. Then just run the wires to the proper pin outs on the ecu

as far as im concern ls/vtec requires tuning since theres not an ecu made for this set up from the factory, most of the guys that do this sep up use a P28 ecu and get it chip for ls/vtec.

Re: knock sensor help!!
I am having this same problem
I don't mean to disturb your thread but I have a question if anyone can answer?
I have a GSR swap in my eg hatch and wired the knock sensor from the motor to the ecu and worked fine for some time. I was driving it today and it threw this code again and wanted to know if this has any effect on the motor. I had it bar'd so i guess the wiring just came lose.
I can i get V-tech to pop efficient with the knock sensor wired like this.

Re: knock sensor help!!
as far as i know and from experience vtec will still hit relatively hard if you CEL is on even if its throwing a knock sensor code. what happens though is since the CEL is on it will retard your timing when in vtec and possibly normal driving so you dont get the full power out of your car.
