Default heads up: ST oil filter info

http://theoildrop.server101.co...00482

Here's The Champion Labs response:

"Wal-Mart has requested we consolidate some part numbers in the Super Tech filter line. In doing so, the ST2808 will now be labeled as ST3593A.

The ST3593A is fitted with an anti-drainback valve as well as a by-pass valve; as was the ST2808. The SuperTech filter line meets or exceeds all original equipment requirements for fit and function.

If you require additional assistance, please feel free to contact our
Filter Hotline at 800-882-0890.

Thank you.

My e-mail to them:
I like supporting a real manufacturer right here in my own state of Illinois. For this reason, I buy Walmart's Supertech brand oil filters because you make them.

However, I recently heard that there might be problems with the ST2808 filter for my Honda Odyssey (Alabama built, mind you). Is there any truth to this? Should I get this filter out of my van NOW?

I read this on an internet forum. So far I consider it hearsay and would like to hear from you if the product is OK for continued use. The WalMart store personnel were completely in the dark, but I did notice that there was no longer even a sticker on the shelf for ST2808 filters anymore.

Please reassure me!

there's only a few makers of filters. and fram produces the filters for honda usa. only the origial filter on your car(if it was built in japan) is non fram.

its like kleenex. they make tissues for everyone, but there not labeled kleenex.

Last time I looked at the Honda Filter, it was made by some Canadian Company called Filtech Corporation.

No, the Canadian filter is made by fram, the USA filter is from filtech. It seems that the USA filter is starting to phase out of the dealers. Now all they have is the Fram

That is correct:

Made in USA = Filtech
Made in Canada = Fram for Honda OEM filters

I went to AutoZone yesterday where I normally buy my STP filter, and I decided to do a quick compare of the STP, Bosch, and Mobil1 filters for my car.

From what I could see visually on the outside and inside the filters, the STP and Bosch were EXACTLY the same, except STP was $3 and Bosch was $5.50. The Bosch filter said "Filtech technology" on it, I don't know if this is any relation to the Filtech company that makes Honda USA OEM filters or not.

The Mobil1 filter looked mostly the same as the other two, but it had an immediately visible anti-drainback valve inside (large spring right there when you look inside the filter). Of course it also cost $12.
