Car sputters after t-belt install what is wrong?
So first ill let you guys know what happened to my 00 integra gs. Driving down the freeway and car suddenly loses all power so i pull off freeway and then get it towed home. After inspection i found the timing belt was falling apart the ribs had came off like a 1/4 of the belt. Now one cam gear had jumped timing but the belt never completely broke. So we changed belt, water pump, and tensioner and started it up hoping no bent valves and now it idles perfect but if you just blip the throttle it sputters and sounds like its getting choked out. If you rev it hard it sounds fine. So are my valves bent maybe? When i had the vc off the valves all looked straight and traveled normal. Timing looks to be dead on.
Oh yeah i did a compression test but i wasnt sure if the autozone gauge was correct. Did it with the car warm and throttle body wide open and got 148-155 all the way across

recheck your grounds, if the timing belt is dead on and compression is good across all 4 it's bound to be something simple. also check ignition timing, remember to jump the jumper when the car is warm and line the dot up on the crank with your timing gun. sputtering is often something related to the TPS, ignition timing or cam timing

The only ground that was removed was the one on the vc and it is secure and clean. I never have checked ignition timing before what is the best way? What do you mean by jump the jumper? i will recheck everything i did hopefully i can figure it out

my best guess for your problem. you need a timing gun and a piece of wire. under the passenger dash if you fish around there is a plug often in a rubber bootie. pull it and use your wire to jump the prongs. warm the car up and pull out your timing gun. look up a DYI on setting the timing here on the forum

above two posts are often my guess as well. he claims it's right but i totally agree that 9 times out of 10 it's being off a tooth that causes this

ill check it again but am almost positive its right. On the crank you use the line on the block that has a eagle by it right? So the crank is actually at like 11 o clock while the cam gears are at 12 right?

you're using the TDC market on the crank pulley and not the timing mark right?

I am not using the crank pulley to align timing. I am using the gear thats right behind the crank pulley just like the write up says. I used this write up http://www.team-integra.net/sections...ArticleID=1044 along with the following picture to align everything. Now when doing tdc you want both cam gears with the up arrow pointing straight up and then the crank part is actually turned to the left a little right? Thats how it is set and thats what i got from this pic
