Okay, the car is a 94 Integra. Motor is a b18b1. Car has Nippon pistons, Eagle rods, Garrett 60-1 turbo, stock LS head, blah blah blah. Makes 334whp @13psi.

Well, when the car is idling or when I shift (at about any RPM) The car puffs out a decent sized cloud of smoke. It is definitely oil. Car never overheats and doesn't lose coolant. I have a somewhat ghetto catch can setup (Monster energy can with a filter on top) The catch can is only on the two holes from the back of the block. The valve cover is also vented just from the stock opening. I get a decent amount of blowby(fills can in 4-500miles), which had me originally thinking I had a cracked piston or ring. Compression check shows 165-170 in every cylinder. Oil in the cylinder doesn't raise these numbers. I don't have access to a leak down test.

Anyways, do you guys think I have a bad ring? Or is it possible it could be a valve seal or something like that?

I'm really hoping it's not a ring and looking for any other options. The blowby has me worried though. From what I've read, the oil burning only after shifting and at idle seems to be a sign of valve seals, but I don't think that could cause blowby. Could my crankcase just not be vented enough?

I was going to replace the valve train and put two ports on the valve cover, but if it's a bottom end issue, I won't bother.

Your compression test results would typically indicate that it's not a valve stem seal or a ring, and if it was a ring, you'd see more smoke at high RPMs.

Any ideas as to what the issue is then? The car runs great, still pulls hard. I just don't wanna keep burning/pushing oil. Was hoping to go to 22psi, but not until this is figured out.

The two spots on the back of the block are always going to push oil. Plug those back up.

What about the oil burning issue? Valve seal since it's only between shifts and idle? Are two holes in the valve cover enough to vent the crankcase, or what do people do for that?

You'll have to do the leakdown test unless you want to remove the head and pop out the pistons just to look. Sounds like rings/pistons, especially with the catch can filling up so fast, but you won't really know without the leakdown. Hopefully it's just the valve seals leaking oil onto the piston.

You didn't clean the head and do some maintenance? How many miles on that sucker?

Head was resurfaced and gone through, just using stock parts is what I meant.

Never heard of not using Nippon B18b1 pistons for a B18b1. I too would like to know what's wrong with them?

it depends on the setup that you have like i wouldnt do a LSV because the timing on it isnt going to be right a lot of people dont know that its going to be of 1 degree LS block is a lot weaker then a GSR or CTR block because of the walls thats what i think

how many miles does the motor have ever since you put the pistons in it??

could be a bad vale cover gasket or piston rings i would say head gasket but then you would be blowing a large amount of smoke and loosing coolant, did you clean the engine before the rebuilt or boor out the cylinder that could also be the reason why its smoking
