it all depends on what you set up is and how much your willing to spend

without typing out a paragraph the short and fast is you must spend over $300 to even start looking at getting gains. the ONLY exception i know of is the 96-97 spec JDM ITR manifold that normally goes for $150. it's the best flowing b series cast iron manifold made. it's also worth a couple hp over a usdm gsr header mainly due to the 2.5" downpipe which of course would require a 2.5" cat.

The JDM itr header is stainless steel, it's not cast. The popular '98 spec anyway.

The difference is mainly build quality. No-name parts in general just aren't put together well. With headers, you're looking at crappy welds and bad fits most of the time.

If you're not tuning, then don't even expect any gains. Especially gains that your butt dyno can sense. It's not gonna happen.

actually there are gains to be had without tuning...they are often small but dynos in the all motor forum have shown various headers on the same engine and tune making different numbers. where tuning helps extract that last few hp is often in the AF. when you change the intake, cams or exhaust it alters the AF of the engine. speed density uses manifold vacuum for signal and exhaust changes often wind up altering the AF of your engine. "tuning" as it's called so often is just correcting any changes to your AF that happened from your parts changes. so, if you're engine drops to 11:1 at WOT with an exhaust change. leaning it back out to 12:5-1 or so is going to bring up the hp a few. not to mention lengthen engine life

difference is purpose made and universal made. notice the size, shape, length and material.
performance difference is HUGE. If your looking for a header go ahead and go cheap untill you can afford a better one.

would all headers pass smog...other than dc since it has a sticker.
