Default Adjusting clutch pedal?

I just got my car back from the shop after getting an ACT clutch installed. Its working great so far, but my only problem is its engaging VERY high. I have to let the pedal out almost all the way before it grips. I can barely get the car to roll in first gear because it feels like its gonna stall. Can you adjust the engagement point of the pedal? Thanks.

try bleeding the clutch slave cylinder first...hydraulic systems are supposed to be self adjust.

Default Re: Adjusting clutch pedal? (Jesse H)

The clutch on our cars is self adjusting for wear, meaning that as the clutch wears out the stroke of the pedal will extend to compensate. This is not so much for pedal feel as it is for necessary operation of the clutch.

To adjust it first loosen the nuts holding on the sensors (that are pushed when the pedal is depressed to allow the ignition to operate) and turn them away from the clutch pedal so they wont interfere with the pedal adjustment. Then loosen the nut that attaches the clutch pedal to the master cylinder push rod (the part that goes through the fire wall). Using a ruler PRESSED to the little angled floor at a 90 degree angle in the correct position; measure, tighten/loosen the pushrod itself, remeasure etc. untill you achieve a pedal height of 164mm. Then verify that the stroke of the pedal (from a resting position to fully depressed) is between 130-140mm*. retighten the push rod nut to 9ftlbs. and turn the sensors in untill the clutch pedal will allow the ignition to operate when it's depressed but they wont limit the stroke of the clutch. Tighten the nuts to 7ftlbs. Now you are done.

*in measuring the stroke make sure that the ruler does not move while measuring the stroke and that the measurement is taken from the same place on the clutch pedal both when depressed as when resting. The correct position for this will not be at a 90 degree angle to the little angled floor.

When you are done you should have a little bit of play in the pedal before it activates the clutch. This is necessary as it acts as a safety margin to reduce wear on the disk and throwout bearing. It is much simpler in practice then on paper, so if you have any questions just ask and I will do my best to clarify, HTH.
