hey i jsut got my tial wastegate and i lost this sheet that came with it that how to hook up the vacuum hoses. their is a hole of the top of the wastegate and one on the side. i think the one at the top is to hook up a boost gauge and im supposed to run the one from the side to the turbo. is this correct?

the one on top is for a boost controller..the side is vacuum,u can either run it to turbo or intake manifold..i think it is better to run it to the intake manifold

ok so the top one goes to the boost controller and you can run the side one to the turbo compressor nipple correct? if you do run the Side port to the intake manifold where can I run the one from the Compressor?

You can just plug up the feed on the compressor if you're running the vacuum off the manifold.

MAKE SURE THE WG IS HOOKED UP BEFORE the throttle plate!
You guys with it hooked up after the TB are asking for trouble

As said /\/\/\

Side nipple is for your source, such as a tap on your charge pipe or the compressor housing (i prefer the charge pipe, more accurate source as it's after the IC)

The top is only to be used if you're using an electronic boost controller...a manual controller should be hooked up 'inline' with the side nipple source

In hindsight, I realize this, but I run my setup with the MBC hooked up like shown in the picture by TiAL, where it's fed a vac/boost source and run to the top port on the gate. For me it holds boost rock solid wherever I want it. The only thing about it is to turn up the boost I have to turn the screw on the MBC in the direction that it points to turn down the boost.

so if i have a eagle vacuum manifold and i have it hooked up to the brake booster, it is going to cause problems?

It'll be fine. I know many people (myself included) using a GE VM without any problems.

Can you please explain exactly why this is bad. I don’t completely understand?

There is less possibility of compressor surge! Since most all of us run BOV's people tend not worry about it since the BOV should vent off most of that excess surge but for a split second the WG, TB AND BOV will be closed. That’s bad! That is why you want the W/G to be slightly open when shifting (unless, of course, you are not yet at the desired boost level). Then once you open the throttle the boost droops back down to what it is supposed to be. (This is virtually impossible to see by eye.) If you take it from the IM it will close during the shift, and at idle for that matter. If you have a huge turbo and run a small amount of boost on the streets than this will be more of a feasible problem for you. Really for the WG to do its JOB the best it can, It needs to be hooked up correctly to the compressor. If you want a little more boost...get a boost controller

Im not saying that it cant be done, just that it makes more sense to use it correctly.

So the picture above is not the correct way to hook it up. If your using a manual boost controller and have a vacuum mani what is the correct way to hook it up?

Wouldnt running the top port with an MBC give you the same advantage in spooltime that is said to be apparent with an EBC?

I also dont understand why some of you guys are saying not to run the WG to a post TB source...is there an advantage to running it off of the compressor?

call me crazy, or just old-fashioned, but I've always had my wastegate boost signal connected to the turbo compressor. I have never had any issues with it and every OEM turbo car that I've seen taps the wastegate signal off the compressor...I'm sure at least one of them has a legitimate reason...

On my first turbo kit I thought the turbo spooled faster when I got my vac source from the manifold. I may have been imagining things, but I just explained it to myself by thinking the FMIC slowed down the flow of boost, and when tapped at the mani, it would still see the ambient pressure for the split second longer and spool alittle faster. But when tapped at the compressor the WG saw the boost sooner and opened up before it was at the mani.

But Im probably wrong.

With a large turbo does VAC source placement have any effect on boost creep issues? Would having it off the compressor keep boost levels any lower than off the manifold?
