I am not expert but by looking at the specs from this link https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=385741 it seems like you wouldnt have any piston-valve or any other clearance problems.... I am not familiar with the d16z6, is that the old vtech soch for the generation before the d16y8? then you would probably need to worry about the ECU and ODBII and also oiling system differences, also while you are it make sure you get the whole D16Y8 head, camshaft, cam gear, TIMING BELTS and COMPLETE IGNITION SYSTEM, or you could end up with a fried motor

It is the VTEC engine that was replaced by the d16y8. It was found in the EX and SI models from 92-95.
As for the stuff you would need. I agree with the ECU, OBDII issues, etc. But im not sure why you would need the complete ignition system. Lots of people run d16z6 IM on d16y8 because they are slightly more free flowing, so in the process i would think you could leave the d16z6 ignition system alone. Someone please correct me if im wrong, but this just seems logical to me.

I am wanting to use all of the z6 electronics. It will be a complete y8 head from the cam gear in. Everything else z6, will the distributor be an issue? I heard you can break off one of the pegs on the z6 dist (2 instead of 3) so that it will bolt to the y8 head/cam. What all do I need to do?

If your interested in keeping with the same years.. I have a d16y7 motor that I was going to put a d16z6 head on.. If you wanna swap heads we can do that so youll have a full d16z6 and ill have almost a full d16y8..
