Default Hytech Header/Cat/Exhaust Qs

Is this setup carb legal yet? I remember awhile back that it was pending. How does the exhaust sound? Is it quiet? Thanks.

to answer your questions:yes. sounds awesome and not loud...just a deep grunt.

I saw that Tony the Tiger has a J&S on his beast now. Okay that means he has an ITR tranny, 310 injectors, and a J&S with the Hytech/Endyn RW's/Toda B's: can you say stacking the deck in your favour?

Jeff Taylor's selling the GSR!: I think the nasty adjustable HyTech header with the D shaped primaries are included....another stack your deck to your advantage for anyone buying that package.

I just have the run of the mill HyTech 4-2-1 (no D shaped primaries bends at the flange end, not adjustable) ...no complaints...and John supplies you with a 94006 Carsound cat, proper flanges to mate up to the collector and O2 bung(s) (extra tuning bung if you want) already TIG welded on, if you choose to get them from him. Now the package would be complete with a proper 2.5 in. exhaust.

Tony, Austin, and TypeR_126 also have posted their experiences here. Check them out using the search function in the archive.

cheers

So it is carb legal now? Would I able to get just the header and cat?

Michael Delaney told me that there is a 4-6 month wait? How long did everyone have to wait for their headers?

I have a HiTech header from John since March 2001. I must say the header is f*cking awesome. I gained approximately 30 WHP with the HyTech header, 3" carsound cat and Thermal 3" exhaust (with tuning). The torque is amazing, and I actually got better gas mileage as well as very good streetability.

I opted for the 3" Thermal exhaust because John @ HyTech didn't have his 2.5" exhaust available yet. I got my Thermal exhaust from ENDYN, and there weren't any 2.5" catback exhausts available either. There's no disadvantages with a 3" exhaust however, because my car actually has a lot more torque with or without the exhaust. I find it practical as well because I can use a 3" Carsound cat which flows better than a 2.5" testpipe. Click the link on my sig for my webpage.. I have many pictures of the header in the parts section, as well as my entire setup.

My exhaust setup is not quiet at all...if you want quiet, don't touch Thermal exhausts! You should go for a Apex WS exhaust, or the HyTech twinloop.

Hey Tuan, so you got your HiTech header installed? I haven't heard your feedback compare to your old DC 4-1 header...hahaha! I haven't checked out your setup for quite a while... mind sharing your updated setup list? Your setup is fugging nasty as well! I must say I also got a new upgrade... APEXi PowerFC standalone EMS I am planning to break 220's and shoot for more power in my 1.8L

I got simiar results setup which is similar as your setup minus I'm FI. I have:

Kamakaze header w/2.5" collector w/sphere in the collector
Test Pipe w/ 2.5" flange to the header, then it flairs out with a sleave to a 3" pipe which connects to the exhaust
Thermal 3" w/ the stealth system

I got around a 15whp gain from just the header and old test pipe when I had my 2.25 Top Fuel exhaust.
I then made a new testpipe and added my thermal on.
That gave me around 10-15whp.
So in total really I gained around 25-30whp as you did. Not bad at all!!
But yeah the thermal is loud as hell especally if your supercharged or NA with it! lol

Just got an email back from John, the email stated that the header will be available at the start of next year.
