JDM D15b vs. DOHC ZC?
im looking into a new motor setup the stock d16a6 in my 89 crx si is goin to ****. The Dohc ZC swap seems to be alot simpler with both motors bein OBD-0. both motors make the same horsepower give or take a few and the ZC seems to have pretty decent torque.Any one know the torque specs on the D15B? is the D15b worth the work compared to the ZC? thanks in advance!
when it comes out to that the ZC setup in my 89 crx si would be quite a bit faster than with the D15b correct? Also would the ZC respond better to bolt ons?
they are pretty equal motors AFAIK, but the ZC will be slightly easier to swap in. I had a ZC in my EF & loved it, so that is my suggestion: go for the DOHC ZC

no the only thing close to the ZC that has vtec is the b16. If u wanted an obd-1 motor they have ob1 Zc's also.

just wondering if the DOHC ZC is worth the premium over the SOHC ZC? Seems like there's only 10hp difference, but the price for DOHC is some $2-300 (including the ecu). Does the DOHC have much more tuning potential, or is there no big difference?
Vtec for one is not over rated in the b series world or h series world but yes unfortunately it is very much over rated in the d series world. Beings how your car is a OBD0 car and so is the ZC I would do the ZC. Getting vtec to work in a OBD0 car with a sohc can be a pain unless you convert to OBD1.

I recommend the DOHC ZC. I have a just a intake and 2.25" exhaust. On a chassis dyno it put down 115 HP and 99 ft-lb. It's a good motor. Either one can be modded, but the single cam is more restricted because cam phasing is set.
sigh.....all you DOHC ZC people.
my sohc zc vtec womps on DOHC zc's integra ls motors....so come on.....:/
the d15b jspec is just a sohc zc vtec, with 1 tenth less is placement.
1.5 liter vtec vs 1.6 non.
my 1.6l vtec > 1.6non

i have both and love them both. i've kept up with stock b16s with the d15b with boltons. haven't ran the dohc zc yet. but it feels much funner with the added torque. both motors get a
from me.
from me.
never been to thrilled at zc engines....every friend Ive known has had a lot of problems with theirs. I think d15b vtec would be cooler than a zc. SOHC powa! But at the same time if you already have an a6 engine just slap a vtec head on it. *** the zc
Needs to be About 20% Cooler

I currently have a 92 Hatch with a turbo ls but I have to say I use to have a 89' hatch with a ls in it and had a friend with a 91 crx with a ZC in it. At the track he would get beat by a couple 3 or 4 tenths of a second. On the street in third gear he always seemed to have a bit more *** than my ls did. I could walk him back down in 4th and 5th but in 3rd he seemed to have alot of ***. His was a good strong motor which is the key. A good strong ZC is a good motor.
