Cracked block??.....valves???...what could it be?
Tonight i'm about to pull into a gas station doin about 30mph. Iwas cruising to a stop so i dropped it in 2nd.....no response.....I realized my car was off. i try to role into the station but i didn't have enough speed to make it up the hill into it. So i turn the key and it starts up..but it chokes when i stepped on the gas (I only tapped the gas). So i shut it off and pop the hood...and a decent amount of white smoke comes flowing out! Definatly had the smell of burning oil. So after the smoke clears i go to inspect. The very bottem of my block is covered with oil, only the bottem, not close to the head. I check my oil and i have a decent amount on the stick. I start the car with the hood open to see if anything happens. And there is a lovely tapping/knocking sound coming from my motor. I rev slightly and the sound just goes with the rpms. What is this?.....cracked block?.....valves?....why would my car just shut off like that?...then start back up when i turned it?........
All help is greatly appreciated!
PS>>engine is still stock D16y8

If there's a crack in your block, you will definitely see it. What the hell did you do? That type of **** doesn't just happen. What the hell have you done to your motor? Your tapping sound could be knock, your rotating assembly isn't getting the oil it needs to operate safely. Don't drive that **** until you know what the hell is wrong wit yo kaa
i wasn't even running it hard........i just got off the highway and was slowing down very easily. As a matter of fact i haven't ran my car hard in a while....i've had a bad clutch.
yeah you mite have a cracked block, if you snaped a rod or f***ed up your piston, some times, you'll just see a hole in the side of the block, or it just mite have made a small, crack, first thing is to clean the side of the block where the oil came out, and see if you see any cracks, and if you don't, try to start your eng, trust me if the eng is cracked, you don't have to worry about trying to save it, cus that **** is gone, so check that out, and check that timing belt just in case, make sure it didn't skip timming on you, good luck
knocking? lovely. ok first, it may be your valve seats. if it is your valve seats make sure they are adjusted correctly. or you might have spun a bearing. in that case u should drain the oil pan and remove it so that u can take a look. if you happen to find metal shavings on the pan then you definitely spun your crank bearing. if the crank bearing is spun then you might as well get a new block.. unless you got the cake to repair it. good luck man.

<----Broke as a joke!...not for nothing, i don't know how to work on my motor. I don't know how to take it apart and check for anything you guys just told me
....i don't have a garage or a lift to puill my motor..and if i did, i don't even know where to start. My boy said he will take a look....but i think that pretty much means he's gonna start it up and just listen to the tapping/knocking and diagnose the problem from there.
If worst comes to worst my boy still has his old sohc motor from his swap. Only thing is its a from a 94 ex coupe (y6). If i throw this in for now will it just drop in. Or will i have to change wiring and computer?
