Default help!! engine stalling problem.. really frustrating

alright guys and girls.. help me out.. for the life of me and several friends i cant figure out what is wrong w/ this car.. there is NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AT ALL!! NO CEL NONE!

94 Civic hatch
98 B18c1 67k miles
Skunk2 IM
AEM CAI
DC Sports header
Apexi n1 Catback exhaust
Apexi VAFC
STOCK obd1 p72 ecu

car will stall out occasionally when coming to a stop.. it tends to do more often when the engine is a colder than hotter.. cant pin point it exactly..

ive replaced the following

NGK spark plugs .040 gap
Spark plug wires
Fuel Filter

looked at dizzy and it seems fine, unless it the ignitor or coil.. but the cap and rotor look good.. motor only has 67k miles on it..

timing is set to stock at 16 degrees

ive checked all grounds, wires, connectors, everything and nothing seems to be loose at all.. what else can i swap out or try to fix this problem? getting parts to swap out and pinpoint will be easy as i have another car i can take them out of..

ive read through a helms and cant find anything else on it.. HELP PLEASE!!

you might want to mess with the ignitor contacts. just make sure the connections are tight and no corrosion.

also what do your spark plugs look like since youve replaced them?

the spark plugs had white tips meaning lean conditions.. they had not been replaced in a while so they needed to go anyways.. could be running lean also b/c the fuel filter and fuel pump.. ill have to check this agian this weekend.. ill also check the ignitor contacts this weekend hopefully as well

Idle is set at ~750 i checked the timing and with a snap on timing gun idle right where its supposed to be...

how would i go about checking the fuel pump??? i dont have another one of those layin around anywhere, wish i did but all i got is a walbro 255 in my turboed car..

im attempting to fix this car for a friend of mine who bought it off me.. she keeps on telling me its stalling and i have no idea why, it never gave me problems, and i know she is not full of it cause ive actually had it stall on me..

I've seen this on a few other cars that I've worked on, and it turned out to be the air idle control valve or a vacuum leak every time.

yea i thought the same thing.. i switched out the IACV from another motor i had after breifly cleaning it out w/ carb cleaner.. i want to go back and clean the hell out of the stock iacv and put it back on.. as for vacuum leak i dont see or hear any leak anywhere.. would a vacuum leak make it do it every so often or all the time?

I would deffinately check the IAC, it could also be running a little to rich and flooding it out when idleing down. Just my thoughts, good luck!

It depends. If the hose was bad (cracked or has a hole) it would probably do it all the time. If it was just not connected securely, it could do it intermitently.

not sure if this is the problem, but are you running a light flywheel?
once in a blue moon my rpms will drop to about 100 when i come to a stop w/ my 8lb, then they pick right back up. i've heard of very few people having problems stalling out with one.

what would cause it to run rich?? its a stock motor except the skunk2 IM and the vafc is at stock settings..

hose? you mean the coolant hose connected the iacv??

injector cleaner was put into the car as well as guaranteed to pass emissions stuff last week.. how would the timing belt be a problem? it was the timing belt, it owuld do it more often not then not, but it hardly does it..

A friend of mine had the same problem when coming to a stop/ pushing in the clutch. It turned out that the shop that built his motor did something to the main bearings and caused crank walk. so when he pushed in the clutch it stalls out. we just took the motor out yersterday and there was like 1/2'' - 3/4'' of play in the crankshaft. Hope this helps.

i dont think that should be a problem.. i bought the motor in good condition and swapped it myself so there was no playing around w/ the bearing or crankshaft..

The VAFC (Vtec Air/Fuel Contoller) could be making it run rich, double check settings on that.

Check all the ground wire.. Just finish my swap and we ran into problem because my car show no CEL light when it should.

So luckly we were workin late at night were able to see some spark from the ground wire. It was the ECU ground.

vafc has been initialized and running stock settings..

i highly doubt that a ground wire would cause these problems.. what ground are you talkin about? i know all the grounds are good in the engine bay..

i bought a new distributor rotor today on my break but they were outta stock on the dist. cap so im gonna replace this first and see if it helps..
