Well hear is my story today i was driving, pretty vigorously (due to my new clutch getting recently broken in) and down shifted from 5th to 3rd and then to 4th. But the shifter went all the way down till it hit the console when i shifted in to 4th. from then on it was loose as hell, and would not go in to reverse. got home from work and got under it and the linkage was missing the bolt at the tranny.
So i got a bolt from autozone that fit and a good size washer and slapped that puppy on. Seems to be shifting fine now,
But my Q? is will that bolt work fine or should i get a stock replacement?

This is where the linkage attaches to the transmission, right? There is supposed to be a spring pin in there, and the rubber boot covering it. My guess is whoever did the clutch replacement didn't get the spring pin back in there correctly when putting the transmission back on. You need to put a spring pin back in there, and cover it with the rubber boot.

i think it is not where the spring pin is it is the other, more on the side. i think the part with the spring pin actually connects to the shift fork correct? if so it is not that one it is the other.
thank for the input patrick
