Going from a 2 plug distributor to a one plug
hey guys I am in the process of doing a motor swap. It is a OBD1 motor into a OBD1 EG using the factor harness off the sohc motor. the only diffrence is the plugs on the distributor. the sohc harness has 2 plugs for the distributor the dohc distributor has only one plug coming off it. they have the same amount of wires and it looks like it can be converted but i am not sure if the wiring back to the computor is the same. anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
Griffin

Personally, I label the functions of the harness side, and dizzy side. I then dismantle the plugs on one or the other, and swap the other generation OBD plug.

HA HA OK, DO A SEARCH !!!!! I've never seen anyone do it, but I can't see how it can affect anything in a bad way?

you have an obd 2 dizzy.....when i bought my motor the dizzy was the same and the guy i bought it from cut it to make it work with obd 1. it is straight foward and you can cut and reconnect same wires and it will work fine......i would suggest that you just go and find an obd 1 dizzy. when you cut wires you can get into problems and it looks tacky. if you need any help i still have that dizzy sitting in my garage somewhere.....
It wont matter what distributor you use, they are the same with the exception of the plug. you can cut the plug off of the distributor and put your old plugs on it by soldering them. the wires will match color for color except some times the igniter wire will be either yellow with a green or just solid white. just start one wire at a time if you have 2 white wires on one of the plugs then you can just be sure that the orange and white that are paired together stay together. I hope i didn't confuse you.

Well if he likes he can d-pin it and repin the other connector but on some year distributors the pin style is deferent and wont let the connectors mate up.....he will still have to cut and solder the Black/yellow and the Blue and solder them becuase the pin is a different size on both distributors.

You faild to mention that he would have to cut the black/yellow(Power) and the Blue(rpm signal) and solder them.

Yeah, honestly the last one I did was OBD0->OBD1, and didn't run into that problem, but I believe you. The OBD1 2-pin connector uses female spade connectors, is that what you're saying?
