I just found a new project for the weekend.

I never used a battery box i just had my battery sitting on a metal tray like it was under the hood.

be sure you get an optima battery if you plan to keep it in the passenger compartment. Otherwise the fumes from a basic battery can be toxic over time. Just my $0.02

 

hmm fumes eh?

Mines in the rear cargo area of my crx, will fumes really be that much of a problem? Like how much fumes do these things really make anyways?

I've had mine in the rear for a long time and I've never noticed any fumes, I always have my sunroof and windows open though. I'm currently getting my dad to fab up a diamond plate battery box for the stock size battery.

The JES'S one looks nicer.Kinda spendy,but o'well. I like my batery where its at.Maybe after I repaint the engine bay i'll relocate my battery,so it looks cleaner in there.

 

I would recomend a sealed box...
You might not be able to smell anything but Hydrogen (sp?) emmits from batteries that can harm you. If I can find some pics of my setup I'll show you...it basically has the negitive and positive wires comming out of it with sealed "o" rings, and a vent tube that exits out the bottom of the car.

 

Also, if you do any racing at the drag strip, I know that Firebird International Raceway here in PHX, AZ. requires a kill switch if your battery is located to the hatch/trunk. It can be a real hastle if you dont want to mess with that.

That's a general NHRA rule.

Forget jeg's. I made this myself.

Don't need to re route battery wires. No Battery acid in the car and no fumes to deal with!!

That red battery pictured is a odyssey 650 i believe. Odyessy makes great batteries that we use all the time for our competiton stuff. I have a Stinger 1700 (made by odyssey) under the hood of my rex (It lays from the back of the battery tray to the radiator fan and almost leans against the dizzy). Some of our guys use the 2150, which lays sideways in there......good batteries.

Hmm, I have an Odyssey P680 in the trunk. Made my box out of MDF, sanded the outside, added a little bondo, texture painted it flat blck. It looks like its made of plastic.

 

i like how low the battery was placed as a option to not relocate it to the back, but i think the battery is too small for me as i have a sound system as well.
