Default Looking for rear fill suggestions

I have a 99 Integra sedan and am looking for some replacements for the rear deck. I am currently running with a Pioneer DEH-P730 deck, Infinity Reference 6000 cs components in front, and Kenwood 7x10's (3 way's) in the rear (I want to replace these with 6x9's so I can go back to a stock speaker grill). I also have a 12" sub in a box in the trunk. The interior speakers are powered by a RF 400a4 and the sub is pushed by a RF 250a2.

What are some suggestions for a decent rear fill (6x9;s)? I am probably looking to get some used speakers, or some new ones that are a bit older, but don't know which ones to zero in on. Any suggestions?

Any opinions on Alpine 962b's? I know they are only 2 ways, but what do you guys think of them? What about some of the Infinity's?

Thanks in advance.

for spectacular imaging i sugest the infinity Kappas. great bass in the 6x9's and awesome highs. comes with a passive crossover so the 150 a pair is well worth it.

Don't argue with you...hahaaha...Who the **** are you?

Sure there's a reason - so let me get this straight, you think Honda knows where to put speakers?!?!!?

You are an idiot

Learn what SQ is, what imaging is, then re-read your statements and it will be clear that you don't have a clue what you are talking about.

Thanks for playing skippy....

if you take the rear speakers out of your car it will sound like ****. you need all of them to get the full effect. you can get good imaging from 6x9's. why not? they use the same tweeter as their 6.5 counterparts for the front. what if you only had 6x9 ports in the front, would you reccomend against 6x9's in favor of a smaller, weaker, les efficient speaker? just b/c they are in the rear doesnt mean they dont add to the overall image of the sound.

i could have tried to sell him on MB Quart's or BA's but he wanted decent speaks. and for 150 a pair with a passive crossover, the infinity's arent bad. kappas will sound tons better than the kenwoods. and they prolly dont want to spend the cash on MB's or BA's. and maybe i should have told him to get active crossovers. but i dont think they are looking to put an amp for each component in the rear of the vehicle.

So what you are trying to tell me that my car with Focal Utopia's in the front with no rear speakers and a sub in the back sounds like ****. My friend you are totally mistaken. My system sounds 10,000x better with rear 6x9's.

Gotta love complete noobs when it comes to car audio.

My suggestion for the original thread is to get yourself a good Audio Control EQ & crossover and rta your system to sound right.

Then by your standards virtually all of the winning IASCA cars sound like ****...somehow I don't think so.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">you need all of them to get the full effect. </TD></TR></TABLE>

No, you don't

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">you can get good imaging from 6x9's. why not? </TD></TR></TABLE>

From 6x9's in general - I wouldn't rule it out, but it would be significantly easier to work with smaller drivers.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">they use the same tweeter as their 6.5 counterparts for the front. </TD></TR></TABLE>

Not always - some times they add that dreaded midrange, 3 way pos....

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">what if you only had 6x9 ports in the front, would you reccomend against 6x9's in favor of a smaller, weaker, les efficient speaker? </TD></TR></TABLE>

I'm assuming you didn't mean ports....If you want the car to image, you sure as hell won't be using stock speaker locations. I'd venture to say it's impossible to get a car to stage and image well from factory locations from both seats...sure you can TA the hell out of the car, but it will sound like crap from the other seat.

Efficiency isn't always the goal - are you telling me all you want to do is be loud?!?! It's a silly argument - there are 6.5" drivers out there that will spank any 6x9 - including your beloved Infinity's, or BA, etc....

Generally speaking, I wouldn't ever recommend a 6x9 speaker because you are limited in your selection.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">just b/c they are in the rear doesnt mean they dont add to the overall image of the sound.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Rear speakers will be a detriment to the sound stage. I think that you don't understand what the meaning of the word "image" is when used in a car audio context

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i could have tried to sell him on MB Quart's or BA's but he wanted decent speaks. and for 150 a pair with a passive crossover, the infinity's arent bad. kappas will sound tons better than the kenwoods. and they prolly dont want to spend the cash on MB's or BA's. and maybe i should have told him to get active crossovers. but i dont think they are looking to put an amp for each component in the rear of the vehicle.</TD></TR></TABLE>

I could care lesss what speakers your recommend to him - it really doesn't matter. Just don't try to tell me, or anyone else for that matter, that rear speakers "image" help your "image" or anything of the sort - guess what - they don't

I really don't think that this would help him too much. Most people don't even know how to use an RTA properly - even if they had access to one.

If I was him, I'd bridge the 400a4 to the front speakers (if they can handle it) and see if that sounds good. Personally, I don't think rear speakers are a necessity. If you want to add some, more power to you, and go to your local audio shop and try out a few - pick what sounds good to you.

bwaahahaha...that's a great quote. The car is in process - but I may throw a wrench in the works. I found a very low mile 99 M3...hehe if I can find the time and agree on a price - it will be mine, and the civic will be sold.

If anyone wants a 00 Civic Si that is fully sound deadened, has 0/1 ga to the trunk, rewired doors, and modded doors for large midbasses - let me know...

Guess what - we all started somewhere too and we were all wrong at one point. But when someone tells me I'm wrong and not to aruge with them when they clearly don't know what they are talking about - it will illicit a response.

For some fun SQ reading...

I think the point that rcurley55,vteg, and sopiwnykg are trying to get across is that there is way to much misinformation going around here. Some of the questions maybe noob questions and there is nothing wrong with those. Thats what the forum is here for. Alot of these noob mistakes have been made in the past, and the experts like rcurley55 are here to steer people in the correct path.

to rcurley55,vteg, and sopiwnykg
to NA_95d16z6, and troublecodes

step down rcurley, the great one has spoken

to be honest if any of the audio noobs come into the forum for any amount of time its not hard to figure out who the logical people are and who the stubborn asshats are.

NA_95d16z6, when you listen to music on a home theater system, do you listen to in with 2 speakers playing or all 7.1 ??? and i'm talking from a normal CD not DVD-Audio or SACD

From a strict SQ point of view you should not have any tweeters in your rear fill. They actually harm your imaging. That is what all these guys who are giving you crap mean. You are simply misusing the terminoligy. BTW they may not have stuck it to you so hard if you didn't come on so strong. Tone it down a little.

Yeah there is a reason. It is cheaper.

Let's do a simple spl/cost analysis.

Let's say your speakers are 90db/1wm. Let's say that your head unit is capable of making 10 clean watts per channel. So if you play a 1khz tone through 4 speakers you get what spl...

112db

Let's say you want to hit this with two speakers. You will lose 3 db since you are using half the cone area. We have to make this up with mo powa

So can anyone guess how much power we need to get this same spl level...

40 watts per channel. Since no head unit can produce this power level, and the speakers that can handle this power level cost a lot more than double what the crap stock speakers in most cars cost you should be able to see why it is sensible to use more speakers.
