Default Sub goes out after a while

Just like the topic says, my sub goes out after a while. After driving and the sub hitting hard like it should, it just turns off making my music flat and it bothers the bejesus out of me.

It works for about 6-7 minutes, then stops for like 3 minutes, then turns back on.

Specs:
1200 watt sony xplod mono amp
12" Rockford Fosgate hx2 punch sub

I am pretty sure it isn't the remote wire. Also, just the other day, my dad and I found that the sub was grounded to a spot where it couldn't be grounded. We fixed it and now it is grounded properly, or so I think.. although it does seem to be cutting out less often now when it's grounded better.

There has to be some connection problem which is causing your amp go into protection mode. See if there is some indicator in your amp for protection. Check the temperature of the amp after playing for a while. Also, need to check for amp good ground and speaker wiring or shorts.

Maybe you're running the amp at a too low load (ohms).

I am pretty sure that isn't it though. I turned my sub down and it still did it. I checked all the wires, checked the ground, that stuff shouldn't be the problem. My amp has dials on the back of it,

min max (power)

0 dB 10 dB

50 hz 300 hz (filter)

You can turn them whichever way, Anyone have any suggestions what these should be at, and should I be worried about my rockford fosgate sub blowing? or is my amp not powerful enough to blow it out? How can I tell if the sub is taking in too much power? When I turn it up loud, there is kind of a fart noise, but it can only be heard when the ear is put up to the sub.

What kind of amp is it? It's just one sub? I'm pretty sure the HX2 only came in duel 2ohm. If you just have one chances are you've got it wired to 1ohm which will send almost any amp into protect.

As far as the settings on the amp, The gain {min max (power)0 dB 10 dB} that will depend on what kind of amp/radio setup you have, although that sounds more like a bass boost feature...? See if it has some kind of other dial.

The Low Pass filter should be set around 80-90 hz.

So I unscrewed my sub and found it was hooked up to.. well.. you tell me what it means

2 ohm DVC speaker = 4 ohm load <-- what the manual says. and that's what it's hooked up to.

other options for 1 sub are

4 ohm DVC speaker = 2 ohm load

what does this mean?

which do I want, is this effecting my performance?

In the manual it says for my model:

Nominal Impedence - 2 ohms.

is it hooked up via rca's or high level inputs? because i had that problem with my alpine mrv-t320 amp, and a new amp and a new sub later it still did it. so i hooked it up via rca's and disconnected the high level inputs and it quit doing it.

so what way do u have it hooked up? 4 or 2ohm? if its 2 ohm , that sony amp cant take a 2 ohm load i dont care what the box says i install alot of those amps and found that if u runn them 2ohm mono they tend to shut down alot, wire the sub in series to 4ohm and you should be fine

your problem is your amp, mine used to do that too when i had a kenwood. It gets hot then shuts itself down till it cools off, and becomes a ruthless cycle. If you're running a 2 ohm load on your amp, that's your problem. I wouldn't run a 2ohm load on a sony amp. get a memphis 500d or JL500/1 or something better if you want to run a 2ohm load

It is set up for the 4ohm load. I don't know what the problem is and I am looking at all of your suggestions and I thank you all but it still continues to do it. I will check all my wires.

I don't know what RCA's or High Level inputs are, I will read up on it to see what you're talking about.

I am stumped on the ohm part though, because I think it's saying that the wires are set up for 4 ohms but with the DVC it equals a 2 ohm load. I have it to where the wires are set up for 2 ohm but it equals a 4 ohm load. Am I reading this wrong because this is what it says in the manual.
