B16 or B18????
hey,
i've been offered 2 rex's. one w/ a b16a vtec, one w/ a b18a ls. which one of these engines is better? ive heard the b18 has more torque, but the vtec head somehow makes the b16 better. im just gettin into cars so lamen terms please. lol thanks

both are good setups. if they are both gonna be kept pretty much stock, id take the b16 simply cuz its got more hp and better rod/stroke (better r/s ratio should equal better reliability). if you are gonna go all out the b18 wouldnt be bad to build up on ( but same goes for b16).
I agree with TILT if going to do just the basic bolt-ons then go with the B16 if your going to fully build the car then for sure go with the B18 becuase there's no replacement for displacement!!(Meaning 1.8 is bigger then 1.6)
I see you live in California. Are any of them smog certified with those motors? If not, good luck with the B16 if it is JDM, I keep hearing conflicting issues with passing them at the smog ref, where as the b18b is going to be a USDM motor.
Something to think about.

First off did someone offer these to you for free? I don't understand what you mean offered the cars. If I was offered one or the other I would take the B16 one and sell it right away then swap in an LS/VTEC

Yeah true that.
Ive got an LS in MY CRX, and it does the job.

jedubz: by offered i meant they offered to sell me.
as for what im going to do, i'll probably keep the engines just as i get 'em unless somethin goes wrong and of course ill get it fixed. but i wasnt lookin to build on 'em. the b18 is a lot closer than the b16 (location wise) so i think im gonna go with that one, its not a bad engine is it?

I would go with the B18. You won't have to sweat the smog test plus it's closer. And chances are that once you get it, you're going to want to add to it. Going stock is only exciting for a little while and then the need for more speeds gonna hit ya. Plus, you can't beat the displacement!
ya i think i might go w/ the b18. and im only 15 so once i get it i'll have tons of time 2 upgrade throughout highschool. if anyone has an objection or have some specs or somethin keep postin. also, does this sound good cuz i dont know what a bunch of this stuff means:

why not just pay the guy at the smog check $100 to pass it, and put the other $800 into making your ride faster?
i'm dead serious.

the LS is better because parts are cheaper and easier to find, that way when it breaks down or you want to upgrade you dont have to break the bank doing what you want. or you can have VTEC yO!
