I'm just wondering because I'm about to buy one for a 97 accord LX. This will be my first mod and I want to make sure I get the facts before I go out and blow a wad of cash on the wrong thing. Any info and feedback is appreciated. Also, where's the best place to purchase one?

performance wise nothing
generally the name brand ones look cooler, have good intructions, have everything needed for a complete install, and may be of somewhat better quality.

Since all generic brand intakes are made with mandrel bent piping, the only real difference is the engineering of the filter and piping diameter. That is the only real part that is going to make a difference. Too bad that difference won't be felt while driving.

speaking of that can of bees sound....I want top of the line exhaust but I don't want it to sound like a weed eater in a megaphone. What brands/types of exhaust would best fit the above description. Keep in mind I don't mind a little engine sound...in fact I WANT a LITTLE bit of engine sound....but just not as loud as most.
thanks

A lot of people on here like the greddy with 2.5" mandrel bent tubing...I went with the ghetto or poor mans exhaust and it worked fine. I payed 225-250 installed, for 2.5" mandrel bent tubing with a mangaflow muffler, decent power gains and a nice deep sound. I am not sure if greddy makes a exhaust for your 6th gen but am almost 100% they do.

everyone told me greddy is the way to go! but if you want to save a little get a apexi n1 that things deeper than a **** star
Yo wap. Listen. . . . Go to ur local performance shop and ask to see a cheap intake and a good one like AEM or INJEN. Look inside the piping and run ur fingers inside. You'll feel a huge difference in the finish. Theres a reason AEM chargers $300 for a Cold air intake. Check out a cheap Ractive one for a $100 and you'll see the difference. If ur gonna get picky bout horse power then go with a name brand. If u wanna intake just to show ur friends then go with a cheap one. Remember the $300 intake was engineered for ur car.

If you are wanting to go cold air then i would recomend a name brand since fitment is an issue and a no name cold air intake may be a pain in the a$$ to put in, also name brand cold air intakes like aem have a bypass valve which prevents water form getting in your motor, but if you want a short ram intake then a no name should be fine, this is what i did and think it sounds very good.
Hey I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I've read that having a freer flowing exhaust (I was thinking about going with 2.25 inch mandrel bent) alleviates some back pressure, possibly enough that I could lose low end power?

i wouldn't waste my time with a bypass valve. if you really want one though the bypass valve is compatible with other intakes since you just by it based on pipe diameter.
