Default Honda/Acura V6 (J series) swap into Civic?

Does anyone know anything about these swaps, why would it/wouldn't it work? Would it be physically possible? How much would the 6 banger weigh compared to an H22A?

I don't think that the tranny would line up with the rest of the car, or too much of anything else for that matter.

Enough money would make it work, although you can get better results from more reliable swaps. The engine would weigh a ton more than a four cylinder because it has double-double overhead cams, all the VTEC valvetrain issues, etc. The six's, exempting the NSX's, aren't made for performance anyhow.

Have you seen the size of those bad mamajamas. My sister has a 3.0 Cl and that motor is freakin huge. I doubt even with minor cutting that it would even fit in a civic. I also doubt that a civics suspension would be able to handle it since my sisters car feels like a flat out pig.

What about the 3.0 ltr type S?

Anyways to answer your question, it would be to much work and the power vs work ratio would make it pointless. I've seen a 4th gen civic h/b with an acura legend v6 in it. I think it took the guys (3 of them) a long time fabricating stuff. This was a long time ago though, Shortly after they completed it, they realized that you could just drop a b16 in there and be faster. But the v6 in a civic was appealing, kinda like putting a v8 in a stang that came with a strait 6, v-8 = better in that case. (they were older gentlemen with nothing better to do)

thanks for the replies guys.

It's just that the V6 Honda engines are very common and cheap. Auto wreckers know that performance-capable Honda 4 cylinder engines are desirable so they get big coin for them, the J series V6s on the other hand are extremely cheap even on ebay.

Also, the new TL produces 270hp stock, which would haul pretty good in an EK.

I like to push the envelope, and I see on these forums how much respect a cutting-edge swap gets, so I really want to go crazy with an extreme motor swap.

There's no doubt that this engine is a great performer, but it's made more for smooth operation (and it's smooth as buttered silk, btw) than power.

this is the kind of thinking that has put the evolution of Honda/acuras where they are today...

nothing is impossible no matter how many morons say that it is because with an imagination and enough fabrication anything is possible. keep thinking freely.

Well, if you're willing to put the time and money into making this work, I think it would be a fantastic sleeper. I also think that it would be easier to put an LS1 in a hatchback, but not everyone would appreciate fabricating a tranny tunnel and independent rear suspension for the axle .

Why not LS4 with manual 6 speed? LOL... Would love to see a V8 in a Civic... even if it is slow as ballz... it would still be cool!

with the amount of work it would take to get that motor in a civic you might as well watch a few episodes of american hotrod and build your own car from scratch and stick it in there...lol

please allow me to rant.

[rant]American hotrod and American chopper are the worst shows ever... they should just call it the "2 hour billet block" on discovery because it's nothing but billet garbage on both shows. The cars on American Hotrod have no ingenuity and are pure cookie cutter, that glass roadster they built was a joke and now they took a perfectly good junkyard 56, one of my favorite cars ever and turned it into a cookie cutter showpiece, they should have built a straight axled gasser with a poncho mill, a hydramatic and a welded olds rearend... That's just about the only way you could build a tri-five and get my respect. And then there's American Chopper... 99% of the bikes that OCC put out make me sick to my stomach and the show is totally fake. It's all an act. I picked up The Horse this month and they did a pretty funny parody of OCC. Those two shows are like car crashes... they're just so bad, and you shouldn't really be watching... but you can't turn away.

Want to see a good show? Rides on TLC is awesome. Ever since the pilot episode with Chip Foose I've been saying that's the best car show EVER on TV. And then there's Monster Garage, although some projects are gay... Jesse is still god, and I would bleed for him. CFL.

okay. glad I got that off my back.[/rant]

Anyway. Thanks for the replies everybody, but I guess the only way I'm getting any real info is if I pop the hood on an Accord and measure **** up. Just from comparing pictures, it looks like the bay of the civic could not fit the Accord block... Oh well, we'll see.
