I'm planning a boosted B18A/B setup for my EF hatch. I'm going to throw in a set of nice rods and pistons before I swap the engine, but plan on running stock sleeves. For daily driving I don't plan on pushing more than 260-280whp, but would like the ability to turn the wick up to 350whp still on pump gas for track occasions or whatever else.
By the way I tried searching the terms pump, gas, and race in various combinations so if its been covered before I couldn't find it.

I would just get the car tuned and see what kind of hp #'s the car is putting down. Then go from there. If your making 300 whp at 12psi then use that as your limit for using pump gas, or whatever your tuner thinks. Then anything else above 12 psi you use 100 or 116 race gas.

1. My track is gay sometimes.
2. I like to run it like I drive it. I don't want to hear "but your car wouldn't be that fast without race gas". APR use to be right by my apartment and they would always run there cars on race gas, then quote the numbers like its what the ran on the street. Kinda ticked me off for some reason.

But are the stock sleeves able to reliably hold 400whp? I know there have been tons of people who have made more than 400whp on stock sleeves before, but is is safe to do for extended periods of time and for a daily driven vehicle. The reason I ask is because I am in the same boat and my power goals are around 400whp and I was wondering if I can safely get away with stock sleeves. Thanks in advance.

yes it should be fine...but are you really gonna beat the **** outa it @ 400whp daily?

i'm hoping to make it to 400whp on stock sleeves before they start giving. right now i'm at 300+whp on pump gas and looking for more gains after i redue my downpipe, exhaust, valvetrain.
I´ve saw stock sleeves cracking only with 270whp, also iff you wan to put 400whp on a daily driven car than get your block sleeved.

I'm sure guys have cracked sleeves with 200whp (I know of a guy that did with little more than that), but I don't see how the relevance of poor tuning plays into anything. I'm sure detonation can do alot of damage at even low power levels.
Edit: typed pooring instead of poor for some strange reason

poor tuning puts all of your motor's internals at risk. whether it's tuning with an afc, hondata, motec...if a car is poorly tuned, it is more likely to malfunction. an example, my buddy tuned his car with an afc and at 6.8k+ did not give it enough fuel. when we ran at the tracks, he cracked his sleeves due running too lean and detonating. had he tuned it via dyno and wideband, he would of not of ran into such situations.

No I'm not going to beat the thing everyday, but I would like to be able to get on it once in a while without having to worry about it, you know? I'm leaning towards just getting it sleeved thinking that is is fairly cheap insurance, but at the same time I don't really want to spend the money if I really don't have to. Do you understand what I'm saying?

I understand, i don't think you will have a problem as long as tuning is good.

Get a properly installed blockguard and some good tunning with a good standalone and you'll be good to go. I cant stress the tunning part enough. Someone on this board was running around with 470hp on stock internals. Stoopid was running somewhere in the 400hp range I believe. Good luck.
