my car will start up and run fine no check engine lights but out of nowhere it will die and then when i start checking things i am getting no spark. i dont know when it will start when it wont and when its going to die. any ideas

 

how are you checking whether or not your getting spark. your car is starting, so you've got some spark down there, but then after a while it dies?

Is this this while driving or Idle when it dies?

What engine is this btw/

 

Check the distributor contacts, check the ICM, and the Coil. Are you positive you're not getting spark? Could also be some ditry injectors. But I'd test the voltages you're getting from the Ignition control module and the coil in the distributor. You should tell us what motor but here is the specs for a B16 OB1 engine: the differences will be in the voltages which youll need a manual for your specific motor to know what you should be getitng:

Coil - Primary Winding Resistance (Between the A and B terminals): .6 - .8 ohms
Secondary Winding Resistance (Between the A and secondary winding terminals): 12,800 - 19,200 ohms
ICM -
1. Disconnect the BLK/YEL, WHT/BLU, YEL/GRN, and BLU wires from the ICM
2. Turn the ignition switch ON. Check for voltage between the BLK/YEL wire and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
- If there is no battery voltage, check the BLK/YEL wire between the igniton switch and the ICM.
- If there is bagttery voltage, to to 3.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON. Check fro voltage between the WHT/BLU wire and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
- If ther is no battery voltage, check:
- Ignition coil.
- WHT/BLU wire between the coil and the ICM
- If there is battery voltage, go to 4
4. Check the YEL/GRN wire between the ECM and the ICM
5. Check the BLU wire between the tachometer and the ICM.
6. If all tests are normal, replace the ICM
