i know you need the 99-00 hood, fenders, headlights, and front bumper for the conversion from a 96-98 civic...but i was just wondering if there was a way where you could just buyt he front bumper and do a lil miner fabrications to just get the front bumper to fit...im doing a project for school so cost is very limited nad i was wondering if this could be done...its also just a question that has been surging through my head...if that could be done i tihnk i might try for it...ene if i just ahve to buy headlights and front byumper then do a lil fabrication work to make it look like the full conv.
well if anyone has info on this itd be a big help cuz i dont think i ahve the money for all the peices for the front end conversion

I've seen people using the '99-00 bumper with '96-98 headlights, fenders, grille, and hood - but it fits like crap and requires some ghetto-rigging underneath, and it also looks like crap because it leaves noticeable gaps around the headlights and grille.
I suppose you could fill it in with some fiberglass or bondo or whatever . . .
I would suggest either getting the whole front conversion or leaving your front as-is. Why halfass something in an attempt to make it look better, just to end up with something that looks worse?
JMHO.

Pending the type of class, why not attempt this? I need more information on the class and type of project, but if the project is to fabricate why would you buy something that is as easy as uninstall/reinstall. What sort of materials do you learn to use by doing that?
it loses the whole purpose then. Practically, for most people, the reason they do the conversion is the aesthetics of the 99-00 is just cleaner. It would require an enormous amount of ghetto riggin, and i challenge you to make it look as clean as stock. Not to mention you would have to cut the bracket that holds either the grill or headlights, forget which one it is. And still have those old lights in there. bottom line, it would look like crap. Guaranteed.

well its for an internship class...and i plan on interning at a body shop where i will have the needed materials...im thinking of just doing a different project...im doing the internship either to learn how to paint well...or learn to do fabrication...i need to find out a project that wont be to expensive...i may just buy a front lip sidskirts(witch i need after an unfortunate axcident with a car jack, and a rear lip and paint them...thank you for all of your input on my question
i alos heard that there is a company that makes a frontbumper for 96-98 civics that is a replica of the 99-00 and it fits right/looks clean...if anyone knows of this...than it would be helpful...

i had the 99-00 front end done on my 97 coupe, yes you will need the 99-00 bumper because of the way the fenders are made, the 96-98 will not line up correctly, headlights are nessacary and so is the hood, and fenders and grille. The bumper of the 99-00 looks soo much better than the 96-98, and i think i've seen it done when this guy put a 96-98 bumper on a 99-00 NASTY don't even try it
good luck, get an A! hah

I understand what you are saying. Personally, if it were for a class or something to excel my learning with foreign materials I would do it if it possed a challenge. I could care less whether or not what someone else thinks of it. The challenge is to make it work the way you want it or to continue to follow stock form. It's for a class, if the fabrication can be done properly and the experience learned from, which seems to be the point then why not do it.

You're not supposed to be using a scissors jack to support the car while you're under it. Those things are only for emergency tire changes; they are very dangerous.
Always use jackstands and a hydraulic jack on a level, stable surface when working under your car.

No, you don't have to change the radiator support.
