damn i'm so pissed right now. i finally decided to get off my lazy a## and install the y8 manifold on my y7. now i've got surging idle. i'm so pissed my back hurts. i installed new intake manifold and throttlebody gaskets and i used my y7 throttle body and stock sensors. wtf!?? i just looped a piece of hose between the inlet/outlet of the y8 iacv since the iacv is located on the y7 throttlebody. the y8 manifold has one extra vacuum fitting on the back it from the y7, but i just put a piece of vac hose with a bolt to seal it on.

surging idle is usually a vac leak right? i don't see how i have a vac leak. i went out of my way to take my time so i wouldn't forget to connect a vac line. i also verified my wires to make sure i got the map sensor plug and tps plug connected to the right sensors. i even used the stock pcv.

help me before i get so pissed i go back to my y7 manifold.

should i remove the y8 iacv and plug the holes that are left? i didn't think that keeping it on, but not hooked up would be a problem, but maybe that's it?

 

i had that problem. are you obd 1 or obd 2 now? if you are obd 1 with a jumper and p28 or whatever, you need to unplug a sensor. its on the fuel rail or sometwhere by it. my friend did it, and no more surges or anything. good luck. pm me if u need more help

 

obd2. i used all my y7 sensors etc. i didn't use the y8 vac solinod thing on the rail. i used my existing y7 one that was located to the left of the manifold and i also used my y7 rail and fpr.

i removed the y8 iacv and left the holes open and started the car and it reved like it wanted to redline. i shut it off before it did.

 

should i just remove the y8 iacv and make a block off plate?

You need to run your Y7 throttle body, and IACV. You will have to make a block off plate for the Y8 IACV on the back of the manifold.

 

i'm going to get some sheet stock to make a block off plate and try that and see if it works.

 

block off plate didn't work either. wtf?!!! i'm ready to switch back to my y7 manifold after all this headache. i need to get this fixed by friday night...was supposed to go to a dyno day saturday.

yeah i've seen that one. that's why i took my time to make sure everything was hooked up right. his problem was a vac leak and that's what i was thinking i have, but i can't seem to find where. i'm going to disassemble it tomorrow night and reconnect everything and add new lines. another night wasted.

 

did you try spraying carb cleaner on hoses or places that might have a vacuum leak occur?

i had a similar problem with my throttle body when i took it out to clean it so i sprayed carb cleaner and i found 2 spots that leak, the spot where the TB and IM joins so i had to replace a new gasket & the MAP sensor coz i forgot to put the o-ring in.

spray some carb cleaner and you might find where it is leaking. hth.

 

figured it out. freaking federal mogul/felpro gasket thinks ex and dx manual throttle bodies are the same. shame on me for thinking that they would know what's what...and shame on me for not double checking before i started putting it together. at first i thought the parts guys made a mistake, but when i went to get the new one today it came up as the same part number. luckily i knew that the ex automatic uses the same throttle body as the dx manual and auto. works like a champ. too bad it was too late to make it to the dynoday at battlground in atl.

tomorrow install is autometer egt gauge and then i guess i'll attack the tranny/clutch within the next few weeks.
