Default Look, an easily obtained PCB switch for J1 (ECU chipping)

Well I chipped my ECU but wanted a switch in J1 so I could go back to the stock program without having to cut wires and resolder them every time.
My motor is still stock so I can do that.

I found this PCB switch at Radio Shack and it almost fits the little holes.
Radio Shack Part# 275-645A
SPST Submini
PC Board Toggle Switch

In pic 1 you see the switch with one of the legs bent. Thats because I had to bend the leg to get it to go in the other hole on the ECU. This was step 1 in the leg bending.


In pic 2 you see the leg being bent back a little like a hook so it will go in the hole. I opened the switch up to see if I could just remove the middle pin and move it to an empty slot on the switch. I couldnt though because of how the switch actually operates inside, if I moved it when switch it wouldnt make contact.


In pic 3 you see how I mounted it in the ECU. Its at an angle because I wanted to get a little bit more of the bent leg sticking out the otherside of the PCB hole so I could get a good solder spot.


I just tested it and it works fine.
Only bad part is that I wanted "On" to face the other way. Oh well, I can live with that.

PHiZ thought of the same thing a while back, insted of that though, he used a small plunger switch. Small and looks really clean.

Yeah Ive always just drilled a hole in the side of the ECU and put the switch thru it and run a pair of wires from the pcb to the switch. That way you can access it from outside the ecu easily.

Man you people have it rough in CA. I couldnt live there with all the crap they put you through for your cars.

1 more reason I love FL.

with your ZIF being so big...you have clearance for the other chip?

Do you mean clearance on top when I put in the Eeprom? Yes it fits just fine.
I've also got enough clearance with the ZIF arm, it doesnt touch any of the other chips on the board.
I REALLY like the ZIF sockets I got.

thats awsome.. im going to get that switch today, and bust this.. i have smog due so im going to smog it tomorrow or monday, and then proceed to tune boost.

I would think it would work with any setup that has a wire "jumping" J1. The switch basically lets you jump the wire or NOT jump the wire.
