it's called a rotisserie actually. just like KFC. my friend has a 67 and a 69 camaro on those things in his shop.

i dont think you could dry-ice the underbody coating like you would the interior tar. maybe sandblast it or something.

When I dry iced my sound deadening from my interior it actuallyl removed a bit of the tar from underneath the car. I'm sure if i let it sit for more than 5 minutes it'd take it all of w/ some rubber mallet action. I think the rotiserie you are refferring to is also known as a tractor wheel. I'm sitting at work right now, at an automotive paint supply store, and I have one in my hand. I don't have my digi camera though. Its about 3" in diameter and has an arbor that goes into a die grinder and it has about 100 little spikes that stick off of it and scrape the tar off. looks like a heavy duty wire wheel. Here ya go, i found the website of the company that makes the one I have.

i tried using a wire wheel like that and id didnt really work that well.. there is a special tool made for undercoating removal, it works like an air hammer with a thin flexable blade that works its way under the coating and peels it off

I used a heat gun and a flat scraper. dont heat it to long, just enought to make it soft and melt the adhesive backing.

very true acid dipping is very good on removing undercoating and seamsealer etc. How ever its impossible to remove all of the acid from the interior of the car and inside frame, body panels. after painting the car it will look great till 2 months later when the rest of the acid begins to eat at it again. FYI

There is a thread on How-To remove the deadening matrial. But I tried it, and It did not work all that great. Maybe I did something wrong, but I believe I did not have enough dry ice. I do know about the chassis acid dip, but like someone just said, I hear that you can't always remove all the acid.

i used a torch to heat up the tar and when it gets all mushy and soft you can just scrape it off with a putty knife.

as far as the rotisserie(sp?) all the ones i have seen are custom made. same concept as an engine stand but on a much larger scale!
