Default Ruined my dc sports header with O2 sensors

I'm doing a b16 swap into a crx, and about a week ago I took my DC Sports 4-1 header in to a muffler shop to get O2 sensor bungs welded into cylinders 1 and 2. Since the engine was still sitting in my driveway, I just eyeballed the locations (there's plenty of clearance between the block and the header.) However, they stuck them out at too far of an angle, and now there's no room for the #1 cylinder sensor between the transmission housing and the header. (Ironically, if I'd just have had them point them straight back, I'd be fine.)

I'm pretty pissed at myself for not taking my time with a $300 header, so no need to point out my stupidity, but I need some advice. Should i just have it moved? Plug it up and have a new one put in? Or is all that welding material in the first cylinder pipe gonna screw things up? I don't want to shell out for a new header, but if there's a better fit for this engine (maybe something with bungs already in place) I'd consider it. Thanks a bunch.

yea I wish there was a header out there that had the o2 bungs already welded in the proper positions for the b16a it would look much cleaner, cause my dc ceramic header with my o2 bungs welded from a exhaust shop doesnt look the best, but it does do the trick.

HAHA! You did the same thing I did! Now I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one to get the angles of the 02 sensors wrong.

What I would do is take it back to them and have them "rotate" the bung to a useable angle by cutting it off and widening out the hole. Then they can weld a new bung in at the proper angle and fill in any gaps under the bung, which will be minute.

Functionally your header will be fine, but it prolly won't look the best. HTH

I eyeballed mine also, the wire comes close to the block, but still works. Ryan

Instead of having them weld it closed just by a screw in cap that fits the opening It is solid usually with an allen head fitting in the top of it to screw it in, use some locktite and you are back in business. Then you can have another welded in whreever it is needed

FYI a spark plug has the same threads as your o2 sensor. it fits perfectly in there so you can use it to plug it up. at least d series is like that

Default O2's

I got mine welded to the front (the other side to the block) so no fitting probs just looks a bit messy but makes it easy to swap em!

I brought my stock manifold and the new one into a muffler shop and said relocate them to the exact same spot and it came out perfect.

the O2 sensors go in pipes 1 and 3 any way so if u want your car to run right you should get the bung in pipe 2 plugged and get them to put a new bung in 3. If not the car won't run perfectly, it'll probably bog some, trust me I had this problem before.

I was running the 2 o2 sensors off pipes 1 and 2, ran fine once i switched the two wires. Had them backwards. Then i had the ecu chipped and it eliminated the #2 sensor. Never felt a difference

I've got the 02 sensor just down by the cat and it doesn't run great but it's fine. It that bothers you, just go buy a heated 4 wire 02 sensor and put it in.

I take this back, without the heated O2 sensor it runs like crap in the winter. Get a 4 wire and install it in the location near the cat.
