Default ls shifting (rpm range on the 1/4)

So when you take your ls to the track where do yall shift for the best times. Like at redline or is 6,800 really the best. List your mods so I can relate to see where the best shifts are.

lol, like I told you shifting at redline in 3rd gear is way too late.

A B18B with out headwork completely runs out of breath after 6,000rpm. Combined with a very very long 3rd gear, and you end up going slow.

I shift at 6,400 -> 6,600 rpm going from 3rd - 4th.

when i shift in third its around the 6000-6200 range. like the other dood posted above the Ls third gear is too tall and the motor loses its lungs like a 80yr old smoker!

but in 1rst and 2nd do you shift at 7000, because the lightened flywheel brings it up really fast

shift at redline.....this keeps the rev's in the powerband when you hit the next gear.

true... shift at redline, nothing after, if you shift out of 3rd to soon then you obviously go to 4th which would really suck, bring that sh*t right up to redline

With the stock cams/head shifting at redline in 3rd is only going to slow you down. Where shifting at 6,400 - 6,600rpm drops your right in your powerband (for bolt ons). I have not only tested this with many runs down the strip, but also with a dyno of my car.

lightened flywheel have no effect on engine output or gearing, so the fact that you have a lightened flywheel is irrelevent. You still would want to shift at the same point.

yeah but 4rth gear doesnt pull for **** compared to 3rd. I bet it would be faster to go to the end of 3rd then to start 4th geard

I have tried this many many MANY times.

I pulled my sub 15 second run, shifting at 6,500rpm vs 7,000.

3rd gear is way to long. Shifting at 6,500rpm I always end up landing at 5,500 rpm which right at the begining of a bolt-on B18B's powerband. Hell 4th gear is closer to a GSR's 4th gear than 3rd is.

1.360 - 1.269 = .091
1.034 - .966 = .068

While you are guessing what is faster, I have tried it. If you want to shift at redline and go slower thats fine with me

when i run i shift right before the red on every gear but i put a gsr trans in my integra...and it seems to use it well..3rd isnt long at all compared to a stock ls trans...i would imagine that 3rd on an ls is too long to run all the way to 7 and keep power up...but i could be wrong i never ran with an ls trans
