max boost with btm/safc/450s/pump gas???
i told him 10psi since the stock map sensor is maxed out at 11.
and 99lspower hey! you never mentioned you had a btm! what is that set at? you might need to advance your timing like I was saying...to help with the spiking - i told you thats what fixed my problem. argh.
(12:36 PM 10/26/2003) 99lspwr: hey man, I just saw a post in fi, with a issue related to boost spiking..I myself have the greddy 18g turbo and it holsd boost pretty well up to about 10 psi, but when i set it at 12 psi, it spikes to 14, and takes like two seconds for it to settle back down to 14..I am tapped into the back of the manifold to some little vaccum valve(94 b18b) and using a turbo xs mbc to adjust the boost..Any ideas????thanks, Frank
(10:38 AM 10/27/2003) falconGSR: hey what fuel management are you using?
(2:08 PM 10/27/2003) 99lspwr: hey answer my question first, and I will tell you...j/k I am using safc/440s/wideband...
(2:28 PM 10/27/2003) falconGSR: what was your question? i wouldnt run over 10psi with that setup. ever.
(3:25 PM 10/27/2003) 99lspwr: what did u do to fix boost spiking problem????It was in another post, and someone said falcongsr gave some advice about it....Anyway, y would u not run over 10 psi???
(3:47 PM 10/27/2003) falconGSR: are you running the afc hack? if you are, the map sensor is maxing out around 11psi, which is bad
(3:48 PM 10/27/2003) falconGSR: yeah and i did have a spikiong problem i fixed my adding some timing where i had taken out too much timing to be extra safe, but you probably have full advance since you have no way of controlling timing like i did
(3:49 PM 10/27/2003) falconGSR: i also ported the wastegate hole to make it bigger.
(3:53 PM 10/27/2003) 99lspwr: I am running the hack, and the map sensor is supposed to max out around 11 psi, but the a/f is perfect.........so boost on.....ya know
(6:05 PM 10/27/2003) falconGSR: how can it be perfect spiking to 14psi?
(3:34 PM 10/28/2003) 99lspwr: sorry, when I say perfect(meaning not to lean)...When I had it set to 12 psi, the a/f was @ 12.0, then as it spiked to 14, a/f went to 12.5, then slowly came back down to 12.0 when it was done spiking...To me, thats perfect...
(3:47 PM 10/28/2003) falconGSR: stock downpipe?
(3:59 PM 10/28/2003) 99lspwr: yup
(3:59 PM 10/28/2003) falconGSR: damn.
(4:00 PM 10/28/2003) 99lspwr: damn what???
(4:00 PM 10/28/2003) falconGSR: larger downpipe and porting the wg hole would help spool and power a lot. but it would probly lean you out a bit. i'd be happy with 10psi if i were you.
(4:03 PM 10/28/2003) 99lspwr: I am not complaining about spool or the pipes not being big enough...I want to figure out how to stop the boost spiking......BTW, y b happy w. 10 psi, when theres 11,12,13,14, and so on????
(4:09 PM 10/28/2003) falconGSR: ok do whatever you want bro. to stop boost spiking you're going to have to port the WG hole. thats the only thing i can think of, since you're fully advanced already
(4:10 PM 10/28/2003) falconGSR: and it may not work and it might **** up your turbo but i dont know what else. a larger downpipe might help or make it worse i am not sure.
(4:21 PM 10/28/2003) 99lspwr: thanks, I will try fooling w/ the bleed screws on the mbc some more,,,,Then I may wind up doing that if I still keep this turbo....
(4:26 PM 10/28/2003) falconGSR: just upgrade

falcon::::I do not (yet) have a btm....Whats up with our whole conversation on this post????I thought thats y this site has pms....
And as you stated about the stock map sensor being maxed out at 10, well as you can see I have run more than that w/o any problems along with many oyher people on board here...

Hmm i am having the spiking problem with anything over 6 psi. So timing could be causing that? I have tried both my Profec A and xs hpmbc. Any pics on porting the wastegate?
I dont think timing would have anything at all to the spiking issues u r having....At 6 psi that thing should be holding steady...greddy turbo, correct??

norcalcrx:::mine is not ported....but it may be in the near future......depends on how it continues to act as i try fooling w/ the boost controller some more...Hopefully I can get it dialed in a little better w/ the mbc...I know of some other people running 4-5 psi higher than me w/ the greddy kit w/ no complaints...I will try to talk to them this weekend to see if they have any suggestions..
Now correct me if im wrong..if you use the Gm 3 bar map sensor you will take car of boosting over 10 or 11 psi
Thanks for the pics Joe. 99lspwr deffinately let me know. Today i went back and made sure all my lines were clamped down, but it didnt solve the issue.
norcalcrx:::u may also want to look for any cracks in the manifold/wastegate housing....I heard they tend to crack also....
almost 5000miles boosted at 10-11psi on stock d16y7. btm set at .5degree/lb of boost. still pulls like a beast even on stock sh#tty clutch. been boosted over 12000 miles so far. always use 93octane and keep it all in check using techedge 2.0. tuned daily.
