Default New Honda OEM Oil Filter - SMALLER

i decided to change my car oil, so i went to the dealership to get my oil filter. at first i thought they gave me the wrong one. so i told them about it and they said: "all of the honda oem oil filters are smaller now".

did anyone else notice this? ain't it better to have bigger oil filters? any pros and con to it?

i'm just disappointed that i have to find another tool to get my oil filter off.

edit: Check out this post for more info: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=655093

It obviously isn't going to filter better cause of the smaller surface area but honda claims it reduces oil pressure loss. I honestly don't know, I like the big one myself but my friend is the parts manager at honda so I get them for free.

if you still want to use the larger honda filters just ask for the S2000 filters they are bigger and work just fine and they are made in Japan compared to the new smaller ones that are made by fram.

...Or the forced induction forum It's cool, not very many people have found out the filters have been changed. I was originally going to post this in this forum but I was more concerned with the effects of the filter on an engine that runs a turbo due to the increase in oil pressure it is supposed to put out.

I got lucky and the local honda has about 30 old OEM style filters in so i bought about 15 of them. Personally, I do not trust the redesign because they are CHEAP and small. Not only are they made by FRAM... they are made in CANADA! We know nothing good comes out of canada, right joel? hehe

Try the s2k, it should work out just fine from what other members have told me.

Before you start knocking Canada, remember that the Honda Civic, Acura 1.7,
and Honda Odyssey are all made in Canada.

oh and just a note... I had purchased the larger sized Amsoil filter for my 97 lude... was about 2 mm too long to fit with the subframe and all. There is enough clearance to tap the domed end down just enough to thread it on, and then there's plenty of room. It might be a viable option compaired to the new Honda ones.. looks like pretty good quality besides the intial fitment issue.

the smaller oil filters bump the oil pressure by 5 psi, which gives the oil more of a constant flow going in and out of vtec.

with the big and small oil filters it filters the same. there is no difference, but the bump in oil pressure.

i have been using the '02 civic oil filter part #: PLM-A02. on my next oil change i will be using HAMP oil filters (small).

The smaller filters have a more surface area than the larger filters and they increase pressure, Honda knows what they are doing, everything they do has a good reason behind it. Check this thread they have the new filter opened up and compared to the orange fram you can get a your local auto parts store. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=647419

i ain't buying it. i can tell the fram filter sucks by looking at the picture in the other threads. as for HAMP filters, someone please cut one open and post pictures. they're kinda are small though

what about this quote:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by G2AT8K &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I got some info from honda r&d...the reason the S2000 retains the bigger oil filter is because during testing, the small plm filter didn't have suffient flow at higher rpm's. They actually blew a motor up testing it. My dealership just got a large amout of POH honda filter in, they won't last long...If you need some please contact Tim at 1-800-446-0160</TD></TR></TABLE>
