I used to take my car to shop for oil change. And, they used the oil filter from the same company who makes the OEM Honda filter.

But, now I am doing my own oil change. When I go to the Honda for the OEM filter. I realize that the new one now is a LOT smaller (almost half of a coke can).

Does it actually better? The same?

i put a fram on mine, and i heard afterwards that fram oil filters suck. what yall think?

Actually larger filters are better because they flow more.

At higher RPMs smaller filters can't flow enough oil and they just bypass the filtration so as not to starve the engine for oil.

but IMO...PureOne Filters are best. They flow nicely and have awesome filtration.

i made a post about FRAM oil filters a while back. i was told they are made of cardboard, but a lot of people like it because it has that grip. i rather not use it.

I was told that a larger filter is better because of that flow reason. And now, almost all Hondas uses this small filter. I wonder what's make this small filter replacing the old one?

Yea, I've heard from rumor that Fram's filter uses cardboard. I went to one local shop ( I think it was a Toyota dealer). and, they have the Fram filter cut in half and I saw the filter is made of brown cardboard like material.

Speaking of the best filter, there are $30 oil filter available in the market. But, most Honda owners are not only looking for the best but also economical.

Because of the availabilities of Fram filters, it becomes popular.....

If your really concerned about it, get a oil relocation kit and get a high flow, high filter-ability filter kit. Then just run your oil for 7k-15k while just changing the filter, knowing that your probably filtering out about double the amount of crap a normal filter would.

I'm going to do that along with the oil catch can so i can increase my engine life

You can get an OEM S2000 filter, those are still shipped in from Japan. The new OEMs are US-sourced and are substantially smaller & more cheaply made than the old Japan-sourced filters.

While the new filters cost Honda US less, they still charge us the same. You can thank the value of the US dollar getting put into a freefall - it's what happens when you let yahoos run the country.

Personally I would stick with a premium aftermarket filter (Mobil-1, K&N Gold, etc.) or that S2000 OEM filter. In fact, it's what I've done for the better part of 9 years now...

dont go off on bashing the fram brand jsut because hteir cheap *** filter is cheap.
they also ahve other models and the x2 is a kcik *** filter for the price.

Wait a minute. The Sale rep. @ Honda dealer told me that S2000 has a bigger thread and it won't fit on Civic. He told me they only carry 3 types, the smallest one for Insight, The biggest one for S2000, and the medium size ( which I considered small already) for the Civic, Accord and the rest of Honda cars. He told me not to attempt to use the S2000 filter because the thread is a bit bigger. Is he wrong on this???

Each brand carries different lines and models of filter. And, one is better than the other. I am not supprise. When Toyota dealer cut the filter for comparison and advistisement, of cause they find cheap filter to compare. Would I expect them to show me a generic filter X is better than theirs?

Yeah well he's wrong. I used to buy filters for my B16 and asked for "99 Civic Si" it was pretty small. Then I asked for a "2002 S2000" and it was alot bigger and it still threaded on perfect. Someone on HT is selling OEM filters for "RSXs" I bought 6. They aren't the S2000 size but I was sick and tired of waiting in line in the parts dept.

the best filter readily availible is the Napa GOLD 1344... it's over twice the size of the oem honda... they are made by WIX filters. i think they are about $8

Fram makes the Honda filters, at least that is what the guy in the parts department told me.

Try K&N Performance Gold filter (K&N P/N: HP1004).

I installed this baby and instantly got +25 hp at the wheels.

Not really, but it's anywhere from $9-12, has a "bolt head" for easier removal, a safety wire hole for racing requirements, and you can always visit http://www.knfilters.com/searc...-1004 for more details.

It's hard to gague the performance for an oil filter, but... BOY, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! lol

you cant judge the filter by who made it sence honda just contracts these companies to make it to their specs. honda is just like any other company they offer other companies to bid on biulding their filters and whoever does it cheaper gets the contract ...

Personally i would go with a Honda one ... but i have also used Mobil 1 which i also use the Mobil 1 full synthetic ... but what was that ealier about oil relocation? i dont kno if i fully understand whats going on there

You use a kit to relocate the filter somewhere else in the engine bay, with hoses leading back, thereby allowing you to use whatever size filter you want. It also makes it easier to change the filter.

I never tried on a SOHC but I'm about 90% sure it fits too.

if you want to continue the larger size oem honda filter then use this part# 15400-PCX-004. it is made by Toyo Roki in japan.

or you can try a quality aftermarket filter such as WIX 51334 or Napa Gold 1334.

I am afraid that you can't order w/ that part # because they discountinued the parts. I put on the new OEM filter and the temp. definietly goes up higher. I don't know how good is the filtering until the next oil change.....
