I'd personally go with a aem cai. As far as the bypass valve is concerned I'd do without it. Just be sure to take it easy and not floor the car when going over puddles of water and you ought to be fine.

Yes I have injen cai, on my h22, Dont know if they make for your app. but they make a quality intake if you wanna try something other that aem, Anything less of a hurricane, you shouldnt need a bypass valve.

To be honest I have the AEM CAI with the bypass and there's not really that noticeable difference between it with it and not. The only reason I put it on was b/c I lived in FL and was in a low part of town which had lots of standing water. I didn't really feel any real difference after it was added.
Probably going to try the injen now that I've moved.

What you really need is a front mount intake by arospeed!

get a cold air, i used short ram for a long time for the same reasons you are worried about. i have an aem cold air now and its much better. if your worried about getting water in your engine just put the stock one or in my case the short ram on if theres any chance of driving high water. i know it sounds like a pain but its really not that bad.

i dont see what the big deal is about the cold air compared to the short ram is. I had a AEM cold air and then i decided the cut it inot a short ram about a year later and the short ram i think is better, becuase with the cold air, there are soo many bends in it that the air has to travel through and by the time the air gets to the IM the air is hot anyway, at least with the short ram there aren't as many bends and the air has less space to travel, therefore the air doens't heat up as much. just my .02

i dont think the air has enough time to get hot. its just going too fast.

my aem cold air is a one piece unit. it looks like that air bybass is built for a 2 piece system... where would it install on my unit? right on the throttle body?????

I'd also go with a cold - air intake.

Get and AEM CAI for daily driving, and buy a cheap short ram intake for whenever it rains. It doesn't rain too much here, but when I had my car, I had both types of intakes just for this matter.

Mine originally came as a one piece as well. Had to cut mine to put the bypass on it.

You're going to have to cut the piping to put the bypass valve on

One 3" mandrel pipe flows the same as the next 3" mandrel pipe . . . . and you're never going to find a measureable difference between cone filters. After that it's just an issue of quality & filter location.

Personally, I just picked up an eBay shortram for $30 shipped - tube quality is at least as good as a brand name one, and filter quality is better than many that I've seen. I'll be getting creative with some ducting & heatshielding to make a cold-air box setup. I fully expect it to perform as well as any intake on the market . . . .

If you look around on preludeonline.com, there've been a few guys recently that've put together similar setups.
