What I usally do is just dissconnect the linkage from the shifter and pull the engine/trans out with it still attached. Its easier to remove the pin with it out of the car. You half to watch the linkage though so it doesn't get bent at all. Good luck with it.
I used an 8mm socket, put it on my floor jack pointing up, raised it up and lined it right up and just kept pumping. I actually had the front of the car off of the jackstands about an inch so I got in the engine bay and jumped on the crossmember till it poped out and dropped the car back down....after which I promptly fell backwards and out of the bay and onto the floor. So yeah, dont do it that way, take an 8mm punch however and just keep whacking the **** out of it with a big hammer. PB blast or any other kind of spray lubricant helps.
if you have access to air and an air chisel, get a point that fits the hole....works like a charm every time.

Yes i am spoiled and the AIR chisel takes longer to attach to the air line than it does to knock the pin out, just dont knock it out to far or you will have tio find another.

air hammer is best. If you are desperate use one of those long bolts that hold the ac compressor cause it is perfectly sized with a lil nipple, and hammer away.
I just got a bolt that was slightly smaller than the pin and then hit it with a hammer. It took a little time, but it popped right out. You just have to have a little patients.

a roll pin remover and a large hammer....Kinda a PIA if its not high enough to get a good shot at it but will work with a few good hits
I HAVE THE BEST METHOD!!!!!
doesnt take me more than 30 seconds....
take a well sized phillips Craftsman screwdriver... the one that its almost the same size as the bitch pin
i go from the top... i place the screwdriver on the pin and rest the screwdriver against the tranny.... i go ahead and get a tube (the one from the car floorjack of the cherry picker works)
u put the tube on the end of the screwdriver and hit it with a hammer....viola!!!! comes off without problems!!!

I like the Craftsman 8mm Roll-Pin Punch. Works like a charm, every time. It usually takes a few good whacks to even get the damn pin to move at all, but then it comes out pretty quickly with a few more whacks.
And I *have* removed the transmission without removing the pin - like was said above, you can just remove the shifter mechanism back where it goes through the floorboard.
Once you get the hang of it with the roll-pin punch, though, you'll never have to call it a "bitch-pin" again. You own it!

My latest method is a 1/4" nut driver. It fits perfect. I havent tried the roll pin punch yet. Ill get around to buying one sooner or later.
the last time i did it, it was with a punch that was too small to go at it straight (friend didnt have any bigger ones) and i held the punch angled so it was pressed up against the side of the pin and just kept beating at it....it took about 15/20 minutes because i had to keep switching the side of the pin i was working on so it would come out straight
Use air chissle if ya have it. Or take about a 3 inch long 1/4 inch extension and then hit it with a hammer. Takes me about 3 mins everytime.

thats how i do it. its loud and can hurt your hands, but its better than sitting under a car for an hour with a hammer and a socket.

I know the best and easiest way its as good as chisle and better then any punch and its so damn simple, just use the bolts that hold the header to the cat they are PERFECT to do the job b4 i hated doing swaps cuz of that then some one mentioned the exhaust bolt and it works PERFECTLY
