Removing Steering Lock.. A little tech help Please
How in the hell do you get this lock out?? I can't figure it out.. I have my hole steering column basically apart and would like to figure out how to take it out before I have to put my car back together.. I know words are hard to explain, but any help would be grately appreciated!
try to have a little better attitude when asking for help. remember you are 'asking'. nobody 'has' to divulge information. and honestly i didnt feel like it after reading your last response, but ill give you benefit of the doubt and assume you dont treat others like that on a daily basis

one way is to remove the ignition and use a start button like someone already mentioned. another way... well i recommed you go to a bone yard and take a look at an ignition that has already been removed or better yet is still on the steering column but out of the car. there is a rod that protrudes from the ignition into the steering column. with the key in, this rod is retracted so that it doesnt not make contact with the steering wheel. key out, the rod is extended and basically skewers the steering column to keed it from rotating. cut/remove that rod and there will be no steering lock. might sound vague, but no amount of explaining via text is really going to help you. if you get desperate and need to make a race, drill out the two bolts holding the ignition to the steering column, remove the ignition from the steering column and then zip-tie it up so it doesnt tangle up your legs. the steeringwheel support or poking out of a vent would be a good spot.

No, I don't treat others like that daily, but it was pretty obvious what he posted.. And I was really hoping what he had posted was going to help me.. I might just have to go with a push button start =~(, I really didn't want to go in that far though.. I"ll keep trying though. Jon, any success?
No offence but if you take the ignition off the steering column, then how in the world do you start your car, turn the car off? I think removing the steering lock would be easier than putting on a push start button. You just have to find out exactly what to remove first, that’s the hard part. Once I (we) figure it out, I (we) will let everyone know. Just my two cents worth. Hope that doesn’t make me sound like an *******, that’s just the way it is.
Corey - As for removing the steering lock, I’m still inquiring. I thought with all of the racers on Honda-Tech.com, that someone would know. After all, it is required by NASA, SCCA, BMW CCA, PCA, Historic Racing, etc. If you can hold off a week, I’ll go to my race mechanic’s shop and have him show me what exactly needs to be removed (or if I hear anything from my other contact…haven’t got an eMail back yet from him yet, I’ll let you know).

OK OK OK!!! I figured it out!! I stoped by Rosen autosport and asked Joe Henderson "how the hell you take that lock out?". His responce: "Take a Drill bit, about 3/8 in size, and drill the center of the copper/brace plate on the bottom of the ignition, that is right underneith the column itself.." He showed me his car and it was obvious, so I guess Warren was right about requiring a Big Drill =~)
From looking under the steering column at the ignition, there is the circular brass/copper plate about halfway threw the ignition, line the drill bit up directly in the middle of the plate where the dimple is and drill threw.. A spring will drop out and thats it.. Its done.. If you flip upside down It will lock, but who cares when your upside down.
Hope this helps ya Jon, I know it helped me A lot.. I was like "****!, its that easy"!

Good Deal, thanks Corey and glad to hear it worked!!! I'll work on mine later today and let you know how it went. As for the other comments directed to you...whatever!
The same worked for mine. There is a 3/4" diameter brass/copper plate whereas in the middle looks like a shear-off bolt. As Corey said, drill all the way through until you get to the spring, pull the spring out, and no more steering lock. If my car and Corey's car have the same steering wheel lock, it looks like anyone with a car between 1993 and 1998 (from and Prelude to an Integra), the same process make work for those years too.
As far as the comments, good to see it was all in fun.

I don't know about Corey, but I did not. Here's the best I can describe. Take off the steering column plastic cover (whereas there are three screws holding the top and bottom pieces together). Locate the point where you insert your key into the ignition, and look about four inches to the left. You will see an inch (almost) diameter brass / copper type cover (thing-y-majiger) on the ignition system. In the middle of this you will see an almost 3/8" diameter sheared off bolt. Drill through this bolt about an 1/8" inch and pull out the spring which is about as big around as a pencil, just over an inch long. And presto, no more steering wheel lock.
Corey, did I miss anything? And note, Corey is the one to thank since he was the one that figured it out. Thanks again Corey...see you at Jefferson Circuit Sept 22/23.

Thats pretty much it.. I used a 1/4" drill bit and about 3 turns of the bit and I was threw it.. the spring prettymuch got destroyed but who cares.. I just happend to remember to ask Joe while I was at rosen.. =~) I can't take all the credit, but I feel like I know something now =~)
