What did you do with your sunroof?
Considering what to do with the sunroof on an HC car- The panel and frame weighs quite a bit so I'd rather do something then just bolt it down.
On the other hand, Having a big gaping hole in the roof no doubt throws off the aerodynamics off the back window, and lets in the scorching texas sun... and what happens if I have an event in the rain?

you don't have too many choices, if you want to compete in HC (or SCCA):
0- read the rule books, GCR, etc.
1- remove glass, frame, motor, etc. and put in (weld, rivet, bolt, whatever) a metal plate
2- re-skin the whole roof with no hole
3- read the rule books again.
that's it.
For HPDEs, leave as is.

To be more correct I had the roof "reskinned" with a stock panel. This is legal in IT and NASA agrees that it is an acceptable way to go. BTW-the entire sunroof and all of the hardware associated with it comes out for IT.

I did read the rules. A search for SUNROOF in the CCR and HC rules yielded the following two mentions of sunroofs:
CCR:
Sunroof clips are required. Glass sunroofs (moon roofs) must be removed or
completely covered with tape on both sides.
HC:
Sunroofs/moonroofs and associated mechanisms/wiring may be removed.
Consult the NASA CCR for regulations on sunroof removal and replacement.
does "removal" = gaping hole, or replacement with metal? It is not specified.
I'm really not trying to be a PITA I promise
I have zero previous experience, and have only the rules to go by, and not what I've seen or experienced.

From HC rules:
4.5 Sunroofs/Moonroofs
a) Sunroofs or Moonroofs made of glass must be either:
1) removed from the vehicle during competition; or (in this case arm restraints required)
2) replaced by an acceptable covering such as sheet metal or aluminum that is securely attached
to the vehicle covering the opening.
3) Covered with tape on both sides of glass
b) Metal sunroofs may be retained if additional fasteners are used to secure them to the vehicle.
I am surprised that #1 is acceptable. I did #2 with aluminum. I see nothing to indicate re-skinning is acceptable.

Thank you! I knew I read that somewhere - what version of the rules has that in it? The one at honda-challenge.com/drivers doesn't have that.

There are national rules from the West coast portion of the HC site.

so my original question remains - does anyone run their car with a giant hole in the roof?
edit: blah nevermind. I'm just going to fill it.

i'd think reskinning a roof is easily interpreted in #2.
as for running with a gapaing hole, first time ive seen any rules allow this, but not a realy option iwth the use of arm restraints, why bother.
a lot of racers just rivet an oversized panel over the hole. like on jasonb's car he's selling. but i like uncle bens approach of shaping a filler seemlessly. it just takes more work.

I bought a fiberglass panel and riveted that in place. Probably not legal for any of the classes, but I don't auto-x or do HPDE (so why am I in here again?) so it really doesn't matter. Super lightweight, much less of a PITA to do yourself, since the panel is already done.

Alright Doc, how much for one and is it easily removed?

.....1/4" lexan + silicone sealant & rivets.
I dunno if that'll work for HC though.....
But I'd rather leave the sunroof in than run without one. I've done it before, and I'm 100% certain that the WALL OF AIR coming in the car (above 50mph) and pushing on the inside of the rear hatch is enough to discourage me from running with an opening in the ceiling that size. It is almost like a giant parachute slowing the car down constantly.

350.
the DC2 ones will retain all functions of the OEM one , mine is riveted into the car because we had to drop the complete assembly down to wedge the cage against the roof of the car , FYI 99% of the weight is in the glass itself...
