Sunroof block off plate pictures...
Not bad. Is it watertight?
You realize it would have been more appropriate to have formed it out of beer cans... or maybe a keg skin right?

L00ks pretty much exactly like mine (from the outside)
I have no structural support from underneath though, just the plate...
I would be slightly weary of my hands hitting that angle in an event of a rollover though...
What is that structure supporting anyway? Is the sunroof blank plate, or is it there to stiffen up the car, cause it doesn't look like it would do much to stiffen it up since the channels are held by tabs at the ends that can bend and flex....could be seeing it wrong though...

this is exactly what i was looking for, couldn't have come at a more timely manner...
while i search through the GCR, is this method legal for Improved Touring ayone? I've seen them where the edges were rolled and fit into the hole, but looks like a LOT more work, heh
btw, how much weight did it save? my sunroof in the hatchy looks pretty heavy

GCR states that the sunroof "must be filled with the *same material* as the surrounding roof."
End of rule.
End of rule.

I think it looks good - though maybe you should lay off the beer when trying to cut straight lines....
<- click on the smilely to see what I mean...
I plan on making a removeable one for those sunny Autocross days... Plus if I ever try rallying I could make another one with fresh air scoops. Mmm interchangeable roof panels sounds like a good idea to me....

Very nice...I'm thinking about doing the same since my CRX is street driven and I don't use the sunroof AT ALL. How did you get the curves so nice, but the straights a little bit uneven? Almost looks like you used a tin-snips on the straight sections.
It is actually on TOP of the roof, rather than flush-mounted, right?
How long did it take from sunroof-in-the-car, uncut-sheetmetal, to fully finished sunroof plug? Hand riveter or pneumatic?
There was another guy on here that had a machine shop cut the metal out for him, then he riveted it in place. I like both ideas, although if and when I do it I'm going to have it painted for sure.

so the only GCR requirement is it be the same material - and that above qualifies?

Does anyone ever just have a new roof skin welded on by a body shop?

What is the car?
I hope to have some pics of my new roof soon (if you can believe it, RAIN in AZ has actually slowed down the progress). I opted to weld (braze, actually) the lip overlap rather than rivet. It's a hell of a mess right now, but hopefully it will be worth the extra effort. It's one of those projects you can't stop once you start
