parking brake light!
Last night as I was driving home from work, my parking light indicater stayed on while I was driving. I checked the emergency brake handle, and it was down all the way. After about five minutes the light went out. Then it came back on for a second, but disappeared after I hit the brake. Nothing happens when I drive now. Does anyone know what happened? Are my brakes going bad? Did this cause any damage to my car? I also checked the brake fluid, but it was not empty. I have a 2001 integra.
Thanks.
Thanks.
not yet. no time to troubleshoot it. im sure its something minor. it happened to my roommate's integra before he sold it. i dont remember what he did to fix it though. im thinking he changed his brake pads. i think that was an indirect fix for it though.
i had the problem a week or so ago. what i did was check the brake fluid level, which i had plenty, and swished the cap around in the reservior brake fluid. it fixed the problem.

I have the same problem on my '01 teg too! I took mine to the Acura dealership to get fixed...umm, yeah they didnt do squat. I still have the problem. My brake fluid is high and my brake pads are at 65%. They only thing that I can assume is that the fuse below the emergency brake is loose. (?) In other words- I have no clue why the brake light comes on either or how to fix it b/c mine just comes on randomly. LOL
Same problem on my 99 gsr...i don't think it's anything to be alarmed about, especially if everything is working properly (brakes are stopping you, pads don't look worn, fluid is good). I was alarmed when i first saw the light go on and off during driving, but now it just pisses me off. Not sure how to fix it, but it's def not at the top of my to-do list...
The light goes on when anything closes the circuit to ground. The float switch in the brake fluid reservoir is one thing, the switch at the handbrake lever is the other.
Unplug the wires at the brake fluid reservoir cap. If the problem goes away, then you need a new cap (bad float switch).
Check the switch down at the handbrake lever. Is the bracket bent so the switch 'thinks' the lever is up? Is the switch loose in the bracket? Unplug the switch, if the problem goes away you need a new switch.
If neither one of these makes the problem go away, then you have to look at the wires to each of these switches. Somewhere the insulation is rubbed off & it's shorting to ground.
