Ok,
I decided to go for the swap in my hatch. I am swapping to an LS. The question I have is if I am looking for from 400-450hp do i need to sleeve it? I have the money and want to do it right the first time, it is out of the car now and perfect timing to do so. But I don't want to be that idiot on HT that sleeved his block for no reason. Thanks for the help.

If you want to do it right and want to make 400+ hp then sleeve it if you have the money, especially since its out if the car and can easily be done....go for it, you cant go wrong

no question on the tuning that seems to be the most importtant thing to do after installation.

 

I would sleeve it if you have the extra cash.

You can make upwards on 500whp on stock sleeves. Jinxproof here on the board is a good example. I made 390 on stock sleeves, Uglyasscivic made 460 I believe. ITs all about tuning. IT is possible but at the same time sleeves offer a nice reassurance. If you have the $$ do it, if not make sure you have some good fuel managment and tuning.

 

sleeve it just to be safe. you can get the numbers w/o sleeving it. BUT just to be safe sleeve it.

sleeve it! that way in the future if you plan to boost more you wont be scared too, and you will know that your block will be able to handle it!(since you say you have the money)

for the money sleeving is the best thing like everyone says, but if you dont have the money atleast get a blockguard that goes around the cyliner tops (or post it), and tune it well... I just saw a post about a guy on stock sleeves hittin 505hp... so its not impossible to meet your need, but obviously its tuning

 

Personally I think 500whp+ is BS when running stock sleeves... If it is we'll just see how long it lasts at the boost levels it takes to achieve that kind of power... Just my $0.02 again... Good luck

 

I agree w/u... I bet it wont last too long. The guy prolly has money and has it for uses at the strip...
But I dont think its bullshit if he knows what he is doing. A lot of his power kicked in between 5500 and 6000 rpms (like a 100hp jump) so its defenately him trying to make a reason for a new block or to get it sleeved

alot of people have made great power on stock sleeves. my motor lasted 2 years with honda sleeves @ well over 500 to the wheels. tuning is the key.

.....but if you have the cash, and you 100% trust who's doing your sleeves, then sleeve it. but remember, stock honda sleeves will hold better than an incorrectly sleeved block.....and we've seen alot of those lately.
