Default Power FC versus Hondata (P1 Auto and Trey got to the bottom of this one)

Just a little info for those that care.

1998 DC2-R 58K miles
*Comptech air box
*Full Comptech exhaust and race header
*test pipe
*ATS final drive
Trey, let me know if I forgot anything.

Trey C. shows up yesterday and we put about 4hours on the dyno....after the dust had settled the results below speak for themselves.

Yummy '98 on the rollers

Final results

Bone Stock '01 Type R versus Trey's kar

Power FC versus the Hondata, as you can tell very, very little difference.

Fully tuned versus a bone stock '98 P73 ECU (only change was the ECU)

Same data as above but just shown in a "gains" form.

I'll let Trey fill in any gaps that I may have forgotten.

I do have a 2001 ITR Intake cam, Hondata IM gasket, Fidanza Flywhee; (This really matter?) and the Toda Gen1 cam gears that we left sitting at Zero

Jack ninja tuned the car for me and let me do the changing on the laptop. And then left me to drown in a sea of Hondata information oevrload. I learned a lot and gained a bunch in the midrange in the mean time. Was totally worth the wait (Been trying to get to P1 since early May).

to P1 and the yackster (man that nickname has so much literal meaning after the Expo). P1 is the only place that will touch my kaa beside me!!

Oh Jack you should tell everyone about the neat noise my car made!!

EDIT: As pointed out by our freind Austin I did forget to post that I do have 290 cc Prelude Injectors.

The fully tuned versus P73 ECU shows very nice midrange gains for both HP and TQ.

Before you bench racers compare numbers to a dynojet dyno and say "holy **** that's weak! those comptech parts must SUCK!" realize that this wasn't on a dynojet.

Good point. Best guess before my Dynojet runs in the next week or so this is a 185-186 whp dynojet run.

I did with Jack guidance.

Sure would have been nice if Lawrence Dynospot and Austin would have been willing to share austin's Hondata file that is about 99% like my setup. Woudl have saved me some time and given me something to compare to. . . . maybe someday.

I'm suprised, the 98 ECU did fairly well from what I can tell - compared to a Full-tune.

Either way, nice results and thanks for sharing.

only in certain parts of the powerband. the difference under the curve is quite a bit. nice big midrange owns.

i think the correct answer is "either one is great when tuned at P1"

Am I interpreting this correctly? The bone stock '98 ITR has significantly higher numbers that the bone stock '01 ITR?

no.

The 98 was 2001 intake cam, Icebox, Comptech Race header, Testpipe, Comptech Exhaust with stock ECU.

2001 was stock.

Trey, I would like to thank you for publically bashing me, and Lawrence at DynoSpot. DynoSpot has a policy that they will not share an ECU tune without the express permission of the person that paid for that tune. Lawrence and I were sitting down for dinner after a race and he told me that Hondata was asking about my tune, and wanted them to send a copy to them. I flatly refused to send a tune to Hondata that I have spent well over 30 DynoJet runs, and 6 months developing, I invested quite a few dollars to get my car to where I want it to be. If you figure that you can make ~5 runs per hour without heat affecting your tune, that would mean that I have spent 6 hours of fine tuning this setup, which at a "normal" tuning rate of $185 per hour would be a cost of $1,110.

If you're going to publically bash a company and a person please do so with accurate information. For the record we have setups that are far from being close...just to name a few; HyTech header vs. Comptech header, HPC Coated header, HyTech exhaust vs. Comptech 2.25" exhaust, Mugen head gasket vs. stock, JDM FD vs. ATS FD, I have a Spoon thermostat and Mugen thermoswitch which cause my car to run quite cold which allows me to run a leaner mixture, my setup is tuned for 91 octane gas, you're running...what, 93, or 94(less timing available for me)? We both have IceBox's, '97+ Prelude injectors(aren't you, you didn't list them in your mods), Hondata IM gasket(street install for me), and test pipes.

Yes, I am a little irritated on this subject. Could you please make it public how you obtained the Comptech and Hondata products?

Austin
