I finally got my cheap coilovers installed with my OEM shocks. For a few days I rode with the car at stock height. I had time today to lower the coilovers and did so. I still have 2-3 finger gaps all around down from 4 - 4 1/2 finger gaps. Now when I hit small bumps, big bumps, it doesn't matter I hear this loud banging noise in the rear. Mostly coming from the rear passenges side, but I still hear it on the other rear side as well. It sounds like metal hitting metal and it's a sudden "THUMP". When the car was raised on the coilovers it only did it on the BIG bumps. Now like I said it's terrible. Going down my street (1/4 mile) it probably "THUMPS" 7 or 8 times
Any ideas?
PS <> I don't want to hear about you get what you pay for or that's what you get. Looking for a solution to this problem before I rip the suspension apart and try some things.
BTW >>> Tein SS coming one day

it's because when your car is lowered, when you hit a big enough bump (depending on how low you are it doesn't need to be a really big one) the car comes up so far that nothing is touching the top of the spring, then the spring and the "hat" come slamming together when the car comes back down.
also, the "thump" is the spring settling back into the center of the "hat"

It could be the springs doing that, it must be sliding up and down on a **** or something on the suspension. and picking tein, you made a good choice.

Thanks for the info!
I'm pulling the rear in the morning. I belive I did not put the circular donut rubber piece back in that goes under the top hat. I have one in my bedroom so that is probably the problem.

I had the problem. Make sure you tightened the strut bolt in the trunk because I forgot to tighten it all the way so the whole strut assembly was moving up and down like crazy. Once I tightened it, it stopped. I bet that's your problem too.

I removed the dust covers from the front. I believe the rears had no problem going over the sleeves in the rear, but I'll check again. I'll also check the top strut but out as well.

It could also be where you exhaust passes over the rear lower control arm. So every time you hit a bump the LCA raises and hits the exhaust piping...Best thing is to raise the car untill ut doesnt hit anymore or buy shorter rubber exhaust hangers to mount the exhaust closer to the body near the rear LCA..
