anyone got some pics of their 88-91 civic's, or crx's with roll cages? I'm looking for some ideas of how to put in a 6 point cage and where to run the front two bars in my 91 hatch

You just have to practice until you get it fast.

i know this is gunna sound like a very noob questions, but i dont know much about roll cages. Are these ones that you ahve custom? Because i'm a very experienced welder and i feel i could do this myself, if that would be wise/safe? If anyone has made on theirself please let me know, and has anyone designeded one theirself? Or are these all custom designed? Also, would it be logical to have a roll cage that extended into the front of the car, just to protect what's under that hood? I've got a project CRX in the making, and this would be an added safety bonus
thanks
thanks

The best bet for someone like you with no cage building experience would be to buy a "weld-in" kit which comes as prebent, uncut tubing built on a jig. This gives you the option of adding custom parts such as extra cross bracing and custom door bars (like mine) and you can weld the feet into large plates (like mine). This removes the "design" aspect, and you can use your welding skills.
As for extending past the firewall, that's illegal for most amature organizations other than drag, so check your rule book.

Personally, I would recommend Kirk Racing (my cage is of their design). They bent the tubes, we did the welding. There are other options, but I don't have experience with those and I can't say for sure what forms of racing they are legal for (many cages are illegal for many forms of racing).

The tubing material/size is determined by the weight of your car and the rules of your class. My cage above is 1.75" x 0.120" DOM, which exceeds my min requirement for my rex by the SCCA GCR. As for cage building, there are a lot of resources on the web that will help you out. First, buy the rulebook for your class and make sure you understand the min requirements. Then get in touch with cage builders who also understand the rules and discuss your design with them. One such contact could be Walt Puckett (under the name metalworker on HT) who could offer some advice. You can also contact Kirk Racing. Remember, these folks build cages for a living, so if you're not going to buy from them, try to be efficient when you take up their time. It's only fair
