Default Big Valve K20 (RSX) head with Toda cams

From highest power figure to lowest power figure:

- Toda cams and ported big valve head
- ITR cams and Big valve head
- Toda cams and stock head

Car tested :RSX-S with stock bottom end. PRC intake. Comptech headers and titanium exhaust.

Conclusions from these results:

- With Toda cams the big valve head is worth about 5-10 HP from 6000 rpm up.
- With ITR cams + big valve head the power curve is only marginally better than Toda cams with a stock head.
- The ported big valve head needs bigger cams than ITR cams to work well.

No comparison can be made between ITR cams and Toda cams in a stock head. This was not tested here.

Tuning here is essential. Read very essential. The car was tested first with ITR cams and the big valve head and custom tuned to make the middle run (pink - purple). Toda cams were then swapped in. The first run with no ECU reprogramming resulted in virtually no hp change (less than 1 hp). Two hours of tuning gradually raised the power 6-10 hp. The K series engines are most sensitive to cam timing. Ignition timing was the next biggest difference followed by fuel

At the upper ends of engine of performance gains are on a diminishing return. Higher compression pistons might yield a better return than the big valve head at this point. The head is now well set up for big camshafts, which will folllow.

Awsome numbers, Hondata has really surpassed any and all doubt w/ their systems, especially with the Kseries motors. Now if we could only convince 'Pacman" (marouj) with the K20A motor in a EK, to get a hondata flash for his car, he is mad dragging his feet.

to Doug, Matt and the entire Hondata Team

Very nice numbers, I suspect that the potential for the K-series motors has only begun to be tapped.

It`s not, but Shawn`s place is right around the corner from Hondata and it`s very easy to tune on the dynapack.

After he gets done tuning, go put the car on a Dynojet and post numbers everybody understands. How do Dynopack numbers compare to Dynojet's?

those numbers are probably about 10 ponies higher than a dynojet.

Not bad! Maybe I should go with a TSX K24 in the hatch I want to build!

We flushed out the Mobil 1 5w30 in favor of Motul 300 V POWER 5W40. For the gear box, Motul Gear 300 replaced the Honda MTF.

Results? We went from 243.5hp on the former lubricants to 246.2hp with the good stuff from Motul. I'll scan the chart tomorrow.

According to the top of the sheets, those are flywheel numbers. Nontheless, very impressive.

Shawn Church uses a Dynapack dyno, Darren at R & D uses a DynoJet.
