Water in hatch (Spare Tire Well) ~ Tail light gasket...solution?
I'm about to put in my custom false floor setup, but before i do i need to fix this water problem. Whenever it rains i get a puddle in my spare tire well. I checked the passenger sunroof drain tube and it was fine. I didn't check the driver's side one b/c i didn't feel like tearin up any more dynomat, but i dont think that's the problem. I think it's the tail lights. So my question is this, I remember someone on here selling taillight gaskets a while ago... To those of you who bought them, when you put his gaskets on, did that cure the water in the hatch problem?

Yes it fixed my problem. My tail lights stuck out a bit because the gaskets were a bit thicker than oem... I guess I had the older version? dunno. I just torqued down the bolts more to squish the gasket. works well, props to ragejed.

**** the new gaskets...unless yours are torn. my drivers side was having the same prob, i didn't believe it was coming from there, but it was.
Here's what you do:
1) Go to Ace hardware and buy some sealant. Silicon would be best. I found this gooey stuff that is waterproof and meant to be used when resealing underwater masks and goggles and things like that.
2) take off the taillight
3) carefully take the gasket off the taillight
4) apply some sealant liberally around the entire inside edge of the gasket (the portion that will face the taillight
5) once you have the gasket seated on the taillight, then apply some sealant to the other side of the gasket, which will mate with the car.
6) reattach and let it dry!
