unique alone would not be enough for me to put it on my car. But how much weight difference is there in the sunroof replacement? and i would hope that something like that is substantially reinforced.
It's not done for weight. It's done for racing legality. Most organizations won't let you have a sun roof.
At least I hope this is why most people do it. If they're doing it for weight might as well remove the whole sunroof assembly.

Which "organizations" would these be? I'm not aware of any SCCA regulations against it, and I've never heard of drag strips having anything to say about it either. Both require a roll cage in some cases, so I would think that a sunroof being there or not really doesn't matter. Besides, unless it's welded in, a sun roof hole filler isn't going to be any better than the stock sun roof.
It's got to be for looks and it is UUGGGLY! So are CF hoods, but apparently I'm a big idiot for pointing out that they don't save you much weight at all, they're horrible in a crash (the stock hood crumples for a reason), and they make the car look like it came from a junkyard or chop shop.

It's not necessarily the sunroof aspect that some organizations prohibit, but rather any breakable glass on the exterior of the car. If you take notice, many racers have to tape up their glass headlights, in case of accidental contact/breakage.

I don't know if you've ever held a CF hood and an OEM steel hood back to back, but there is a considerable weight savings, especially for any purpose-built race car. If CF (or fiberglass) wasn't a weight-savings over steel, you'd never see any fiberglass bodied race cars, of which a got lot are.

I completely agree.
Besides, if you have a sunroof, enjoy it! We are lucky to have such a thing on our cars, where we can open it during a full moon (like these past couple of nights) and enjoy the cool breeze. I would never do such a thing, but to each his own.

Yes, it occurred at 11 PM EST which was 8 PM PST here, so it wasn't that visible and by 10 PM you could see the full moon once again. Beautiful though!

The headlights are taped up because it's on the front of the car. (and if you do it right, there is actually an aerodynamic improvement on Integras.) That's for if you hit something (a rock, another car, etc), but you don't have to tape up the windows or get plastic replacements because it's pretty unlikely that something would hit them. The sunroof is an even more unlikely spot for something to hit. You don't tape up the tail lights either... Not only because you want to keep the brake lights visible, but because there's really no reason to worry about them breaking. And if another car rear-ends you bad enough to do it, then there's probably a lot more debri on the course than a few pieces of plastic.
A lot of the taping up of things is completely voluntary too... sometimes people do it just to protect their car. Some autocrossers do it to certain places that may hit cones, even though it's easy to remove cone marks and I've never even heard of cones causing paint damage.

As far as i've read, carbon fiber is NOT a legal replacement for glass moon roofs in any grass root racing organizations.
