Default Got my Ported & Polished intake manifold back --Pics inside -=56K beware=-

My cousin just finished my intake manifold for my H22A. It still needs to be portmatched to the head but I still need to get my gaskets to do that. This thing looks like friggin glass. Check it out.

Before...

After...

You want the tb opening slightly smaller than the manifold, and the runner smaller
than the ports in the head. The good porters do it and honda does it.

Aha, thanks for the info. It makes sense but what exactly does that do? He was going to match it to the intake gasket. Would it be better if he just gasket matched the mani and made the head ports slightly larger then?

Now that's one shiny intake manifold.

he is right, it prevents revertion of the air coming in.

Wow, that's quite the difference. Looks very nice.

A minor hijack: Say one has an F22A1 and clogged egr ports, and wants to do a good cleaning of the entire manifold as well. How hard is it to remove the intake manifold? Will gaskets or other parts have to be replaced after? How hard is it to clean the manifold, not necessarily to a mirror finish like that one, but at least to remove most of the crap like in the before pic?

Just curious, because what I thought was going to be an easy job last week (replacing an oil pan) became an exercise in frustration after I couldn't remove the exhaust downpipe. I don't want to get in over my head again From what I've read so far, I may have to drain the coolant but that doesn't concern me. What concerns me is bastard bolts and parts I'd have to get basically....

Don't know the F22A1 manifold, but the work could be hard if one of the bolts gets striped or something like that, other than that, there is a lot of all kinds of connections, so be sure to label them, you might need to replace something, sometimes the gasket can be reused, but is better if you have a spare one just in case. To clean it, i guess an acid bath would be the quicker way, but maybe the most expensive one, i guess a carb cleaner would work, but you will need to spend time cleaning it.
Good luck

WTF are u sucking up into your manifold?!?!??! I've taken mine off and cleaned it out but it never looked that bad as your before pics!!!!...you run no intake 24/7 or sumethin??? **** I even ran my car with no intake at all for 3 weeks and then took the manifold apart to clean it while I had the head off and it wasn't even that dirty enough to justify cleaning it.

no enlargement of secondaries?
no portmatching of IAB to upper and lower plenum?
no t/b bore opened up to 70mm?

i guess it was straight polishing no grinding/cutting?

He was just doing a mild porting. Nothing too wild. He is a domestic guy and didn't want to go too big. Do you think the secondaries should be larger?

Looks good for a mild port job... are you planning n/a buildup or what?

btw what he charge for that... I am interested if he wants some side work.

i had my secondaries enlarged to 47mm
the manifold is dual stage, and the powerband of the h is 4k-7k, dont preoccupy yourself with lowend, on a motor with such a high revrange it is pointless. I guess thats typical thinking of people used to 2 valves, pushrods, low revs and small ports on the head.

but the work looks good

I'm using the stock H22A TB. I bought a 2.5 inch CAI but have since decided to go turbo. We are working on putting together a custom turbo setup. I'm just trying to get the $$$ together now.

He said he would do others but his price would be too high. It takes a lot of time and he like things really clean. He did mine for free and is helping me with my engine install/turbo stuff too.

That is a really nice port job, I must say. Is it extrude honed? It looks like it would be tricky to get all of that done with a diegrinder/dremel.

Thanks. Yeah, we're definitely plugging off the EGR port. He's making a plate. I don't think I even need the EGR valve with my ECU. I'm running a P72 with Hondata S200.
