Default oITR snychros/gears in a GSR tranny

I searched and didn't find the answer I was lookng for. my 3rd gear is starting to grind into third...(suprise from a B-series tranny). I was going to replace the 3rd gear sychro, and i comes in a set 3rd gear syncro and 3/4 gears. Is it bad to put the 3/4 gears from a ITR into my GSR tranny? It was sugested that the 1/2 gear are long, and the ITR 3/4 gears might be to short. should I replace it with GSR gears or go for the ITR? TIA.

well if ur gonna stay all motor, go for the ITR gearing.
i think first gears are the same but change 2-5. ITR gearing is shorter
so accelerating will be more noticeable than ur GSR gears.
might as well get a LSD while ur at it too.

thanks Stick, but you don't think that the ITR 3/4 gear will be too short for the 2 and 5 of my GSR? I know it sounds kinda dumb, but someone mentioned it to me and it just made me think...I might be worried about nothing.

also, if it is just the 3rd gear synchro, would i even need to replace the gears? and if I buy from the dealership, does it all come together, or can I just buy the snychro by itself? sorry for the million questions guys.

i dont know the prices or how well ur idea will work, but it seems to me u would be better off if u just swapped out the whole trannsmission with an itr one. shorter gearing and lsd. i would imagine that mixing and matching gears would not b the best idea

yes u get each seperate gear
go talk to bob case. works at hall honda/mitsu (he is on the mitsu side) he was my hook up when i lived there.
no i dont think 3/4 will be too short for 2/5 but thats me. u can just to the synchros for third and be done with it.

The ITR gears are shorter, but the GSR gears are spaced closer except for 1st-2nd gear. Get a JDM final drive and a LSD and you could have a tranny just as good, if not, better than the ITR tranny.

The problem with buying an ITR tranny is that it costs a buttload from the dealer. If you want to buy it used, theres always that "risk" that it might have problems. In which that case, you will have to tear open the tranny casing and put labor into it. If you're gonna do that, might as well just build your current tranny.

I don't see what the problem would be with mix-matching gears. If you look at the +'98 Spec JDM ITR tranny, it has ITR gears 1-3 and GSR 4-5. Theres a pretty big drop in RPM when shifting 3-4 though.
