since rotors with race pads are such a consumable item can i cheap out with generic rotors?

any difference in the composition of the rotors?
do they produce the same Co friction?

 

Many people have had good luck with autozone rotors, but I had to get mine turned after 1 event at Sebring full. I would really check out nopi.com. They have awesome prices on Brembo blanks,,,you may spend $15 more, but I think it would be worth it. If autozone still had their lifetime warrenty,, then that would be a different story. I guess if your super stingy, you can buy them right before an event and return them after the event (they still have a 3 month warrenty.)

 

I think my front Autozone rotors may be warped after a day at Sebring as well. I am not complaining because of the price. I will just turn them for the next event, or just buy new ones. Can't beat $40.

 

Generic rotors like Autozone can be a real crap shoot becasue you don't know where they came from even in the same box.

KONI used to have a sister company called Aimco that fed stores like CarQuests, Autozone, Midas, etc. Most of those parts were commodity pieces so they could be castings from a number of generic manufacturers around the world. Through the company employee discount (before they sold Aimco off to Raybestos years ago), I used to get Aimco rotors for $10 each. Sometimes they were good and sometimes not. That cheap, if I got two weekends from rotors then it was fine but the quality was real inconsistant as they came from China, Italy, and Canada. Interestingly the Chinese tended to be the most consistent but you never knew what you'd get. Sometimes they'd warp super easy and sometimes they'd last a bit. It was a crap shoot but hard to bitch at the price. I meant to get several sets of those to cryo treat to see if it helped but they were sold before I could. I'm not so sure what to do for rotors myself now other than they'll never be that cheap again.

 

ill second that notion. got a pair and one came with minimum thickness stated in inches, the other in mm. but they are usually chinese made. cryo definately levels em out.

no, why would it.

 

there is nothing wrong with autozone rotors especially for the price, just get yourself a good set of pads.

it all depends on how dedicated you are, if you cant spend the extra money or feel the need to save $$$ then do so.

 

I see no reason not to buy Brembo OE's through Nopi. My autozone (aimco) rotors were $24 (or $26 each, cant remember.) Nopi charges the same $26 each for Brembo OE's,, you just have to pay shipping (in lieu of tax for most.) Should I put in any more ()??

 

i also say try them out too, if you like autozone rotors then continue to use them, if you feel like they are unsufficient for your needs dont buy them again.

if you think they are absolute garbage then you are only out $45-$50

never hurts to try them out.

I wouldn't even rely on the venerable "Brembo" name any more.

There was a blurb in the Summit Racing Import Catalog some time ago "celebrating" the union of Brembo and Auto Specialties (Qualitee), indicating the Auto Specialties is now authorized to use the "Brembo" name on its products and packaging.

A quick search of "Brembo" on the Summit Racing site turned up the following:

I've also talked to the people at a place that specialized in cryoing rotors and the gentleman there informed me of his preference for a particular source he uses which has a higher carbon content (and/or other metalurgical components as well), which made a noticable difference in the rotors "characteristics".
