SMC + 450's reviews to date
I like mine so far. works great for the price. didin't have to screw with putting in other fuel pumps, etc. just hook up the five wires and throw in the injectors. gotta love the ease of it.
i'm interested at seeing some reviews... how did you handle the timing issue?

Me and a buddy tried to install his and had starting problems up the yang. Once running not a hiccup. Getting it to actually start is another. All wiring is correct (I've triple checked it) and still nothing. Does anyone have any suggestions?
The only thing not accounted for is the injectors. They have not been cleaned. Purchased and installed.

You shouldn't "trust" any thing you read from the narrow band heated O2 sensor. Do some research on how a stock O2 sensor works and exactly what the info coming from that sensor means.
I've had both meters and they both read the same exact info but the Apexi does a kind of calculation thing and is slow to report a "theoretical" a/f ratio. So really there is not one I'd trust over the other but the Autometer is a lot easier to read while your hauling *** down the road.

I installed the SMC with the 450 DSM's and the car started right up and I only had to do a small amount of fuel tuning to get it running strong. Only problem now is severe traction problems.
Well the reviews that zip posted are very positive, and I think this is a great low tech fuel management solution. I can't wait to get rid of my fmu and inline fuel pump let me tell ya!
Zip let me test out an SMC in my car. Ran bitchin' with 450cc injectors.

There have been some issues reported on Riceboy Central err.. Club Si, but most of the issues are due to the fact that people seem to read the manual LAST instead of FIRST.

Sonny, I beg to differ. We read all instructions very carefully BEFORE attempting anything. As to your ghetto resistors, Zip has a picture of them right next to the SMC. If those don't work correctly then he should not include them in the picture. Everything was double checked and soldered in place. I'm not knocking Zip's product, we all know he makes great stuff. I just want to know if the starting thing is common to all users. Cold it starts on 2 cranks, once warm (operating temp) it just will not start very easily. Once running there are no issues except getting it tuned with a wideband. Careful on the name calling....just because someone has trouble doesn't mean he is incompetent. And I thought you were one of the good guys. Now I wonder.
I have the same issue with warm starts, but if you hold down the pedal slightly when you hit the key, it will start right up. I think it is more of a pressurized fuel system thing than hot or cold.

I know Zip personally and watched the R&D of the SMC unfold as well as helping to test it. I have personally never seen one of his products NOT work as long as the directions were followed. Zip has a close group of people here in the bay area that gets his stuff, so it by no means goes untested.
If competent installers are having problems, I am sure that will get addressed. However, it irks me when I see cases of bad installs leading to namecalling of a good product. Due to the nature of these forums, bad information seems to spread waaay faster than good information. How often have you heard "a friend of a friend said this product sucks because he knew a friend that tried it.." blah blah blah...you get the picture. It's a more mature crowd here and that type of thing doesn't seem to happen as much, but over there, it is ridiculous.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, but the SMC is a good product, Zip is a good man, and your problems WILL get resolved.
